"THE BIRDS COULD BE THE MOST TERRIFYING MOTION PICTURE I EVER MADE." ~ Alfred Hitchcock. Disturbingly creepy. Pity they don't sing much.
The movie The Birds was based on an actual incident in 1961 in which the Birds in a Coastal California town ingested a form of algae which caused them to go berserk and attack people - the incident is even mentioned in the movie Also, the movie was originally supposed to end with the car crossing the Golden Gate Bridge covered with thousands of birds, but sadly it would have put the movie overbudget - that would have been so cool.
I can imagine that because I have seen how insane seagulls perform on a normal diet. Perhaps Hitchcock's vision will be pulled off with CGI next time.
I don't know Hitchcock did pretty well with those mechanical birds interlaced with real birds. I also read somewhere that Tippi Hendren was none too pleased with Hitchcock's sexual advances. can't really blame her he was 30 years her senior.
I used to love watching that movie when I was a kid on Channel 56 in Boston, and what a cast with Edmund Gween and James Arness. Every Saturday afternoon they would show all of the movies you've highlighted and many more on, wait for it, 'Creature-Double Feature.'
I wont ever stop. I plan to post them forever and ever and ever. That film felt like it was off to an early start. The army was given the run around too.
