You know I know a lot of my online friends believe in creationism, and creation science. I always thought they were total nonsense. But I think I see the flaw some people are making in their reasoning though. And you know, I think the author Alexander Humez best illustrated this in a short story in his book Latina Pro Populo. I want to share it with you (it's in Latin): Fabula. Visigothus doctus ait, "Hominem facillime Sic in caelum mittere: Nocte media!" Yeah.
Like it's bastard step-child "Intelligent Design", "Creation Science" is utter, unadulterated bullshit, appealing only to dolts. Here in the real world, "science" is based upon empiricism, not a fairy tale about a talking snake with a magic apple in an enchanted garden. This isn't a matter of opinion, it's an objective fact, and if someone were to admit to believing in Creationism (or Donald Trump), I would be justifiably skeptical of anything else they have to say from that point on.
The TDS flag. Are you really angry at that guy or just the ideas of wholesome stability he represents? Empiricism is accurate? But the world is full of inexplicable phenomena, life is metaphysical in nature and empricism used to possess minds that said "There's so little we do know", which adds perspective and all concepts must be treated circumspect as they tend to enlarge under continued scrutiny. You don't know where life came from. Creationists don't either, beyond the precept that intelligent design started it. You have no empirical evidence to the contrary. Its amusing how a childish ad hominem is used, when returning one of like nature would be pounced on as "worse". What's outright hilarious is the tds and especially now that its all over. I bet the government will never let us bill for "helping people learn to separate issues and recover from TDS in daily life", but it sure would be funny and lucrative if they did.
Creationists posit that the Earth is 6,000 years old. We have examples of man-made glue 44,000 years older than that, and fossils of stromatolites which are 3.7 billion years old (almost as old as the oldest rock formations, Acasta Gneiss, which is about 4 billion years old). So yes; based upon empiricism, when someone says that there are no dinosaurs because they couldn't fit on Noah's Ark, I'm perfectly justified in pointing out that they're full of shit; a priori, without even resorting to Darwin.
I never thought of Genesis as a science manual. But I don't think it was your remarks about Scientific Creationism or ID that triggered Brother Buchanan. I think it was your blasphemous remarks about the Great Pumpkin, the new King David, and the "wholesome stability he represents." TDS (Trump Derangement Syndrome) is the put-down epithet used by the Faithful for heretics who disparage their new Messiah. We'll soon see. As Jesus put it a couple of centuries ago: "By their fruits ye shall know them" (Mat 7: 16). I'm hopin' for the best, but expectin' lots of lemons, bergamot and bitter orange and melons in the next four years--neither wholesome nor stable.
For those of you who may have not taken or flunked high school Latin, it sez in English: "There are learned Frenchmen and Britons and Germans summoned to the university; the wise men of the whole world were present, to hear the speech of a certain Visigoth, who was a storyteller of wonders. "We have found a way to launch a man through the blue sky to the stars; first we will send him to the sun itself." But the learned Spaniard, laughing, suddenly jumped up from his seat, "How (he said) does an astronaut find a safe path from the sun's fires? Have the Visigoths heard the ancient fable of Daedalus?" The learned Visigoth said, "It is easiest to send a man into the sky like this: at midnight!" Alexander Humez is a writer of our own time, which is why the Visogoth seems so "learned".
You're mistaken about creationists or whatever you think sits on a long known to be outdated belief and clings to it simply for that reason. It just admits where the creation comes from and gives credit for all things discovered to the Creator. But I can see that discussion with you will be useless.
Life began as a science experiment conducted by an adolescent reptilian alien as she was distracted while reading a future edition of Mad Magazine, while vacationing on a star named Earendel. Prove me wrong.
No it doesn't "simply" do that. It attempts to invoke science to back up a literal interpretation of Genesis. Henry Morris, founder of the Institute for Creation Research, got himself a degree in engineering just to prove the worldwide flood. He's a biblical literalist and inerrantist. See Henry Morris, Institute for Creation Research, What is Creation Science? - PDF Download [Download] Scientific Creationism eBook (EPUB, PDF) | Creation Today Creationism - Wikipedia https://www.jstor.org/stable/27639114 It is usually distinguished from ID, in that the latter basically accepts Darwin but thinks God gave evolution a shove from time to time. Intelligent Design and/or Scientific Creationism 15 Answers to Creationist Nonsense Creationism isn’t about science, it’s about theology (and it’s really bad theology) Why Intelligent Design Fails | National Center for Science Education But I agree that discussion with you would be useless. As Jan Garavaglia put it: "The only real stupidity is that of a closed mind."
Do you realize it's been years that you've been like this every single day? compared to that, I have lived Paradise and I am laughing.
People who believe Creationism do not understand the Bible. The Bible is a spiritual guide, not a science guide. While God could have made everything in six days, evidence pretty much says He took a lot longer. Georges Lemaître, a Catholic priest first came up with the theory of the big bang. He stated "As far as I can see, such a theory remains entirely outside any metaphysical or religious question. It leaves the materialist free to deny any transcendental Being… For the believer, it removes any attempt at familiarity with God… It is consonant with Isaiah speaking of the hidden God, hidden even in the beginning of the universe.” The book of Genesis does a pretty good job of describing how things came to be. It is difficult to describe something to people that is beyond their comprehension to understand. Imagine trying to describe how a television works to a tribe in the Amazon. I taught chemistry and physics, including rocket science, for over a decade. Many students had trouble understanding how big some things are so I used the following We took a new uncirculated $20 bill and measured it's thickness. It is 0.00072 inches thick. So how high is a stack of a million dollars in 20 dollar bills? Their guesses would be all over the place, some guessing 10 feet. The answer is 3 feet. So how high is a billion dollars in 20 dollar bills? Answers were usually between 10 and 50 feet. But a billion is a thousand million, so the answer is 3,000 feet Hard to comprehend? Visualize three Empire State Buildings stacked on top of each other. At that time, Bill Gates was the richest man in the world at 80 billion dollars, so how high would 80 billion dollars be? About 45 miles. I can't visualize that so lay them on there side. At 60 mph it would have taken 45 minutes to drive by it. Now days use Elon Musk. I don't even want to think about that. So imagine trying to explain several billion years to people whose life span was less 50 years. The Bible also gives some additional points. 2nd Peter 3:8 states "With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day." And 1st Corinthians 14:33 states that God is not the author of confusion. To me all this simply means that God took His time. People can believe what they want and that is fine with me. What upsets me is when people criticize others for their beliefs. It's what's wrong with most politicians and people and those identifying with one political party. Just remember how Democrats responded when Ellen DeGeneres sat with George W Bush. Same here. Explain your views and beliefs but don't put down others for theirs. I probably have upset numerous people but at my age I really don't care. Hope everyone is doing okay.
