Have you ever considered using a cabin tent or large dome tent to create a living space.? Tents come in so many different sizes and styles.!

I lived with my family in tents for 15 years (year round), and so I know it is possible to be dry, warm, and comfortable in most moderate climates.
If you are young and living at home, you could even set one up in your backyard to have a space apart from your household to sleep, and hang out in. You have privacy, and a place seperated from family interactions if you wish.

If you need a study, or yoga studio, or a quiet space to be creative, or just get away from it all, you could have one.

With carpeting, bed, desk, computer, music and video etc. you can create any kind of space you need. Fill it up, or leave it empty for meditation purposes.

You can move your scene anywhere and have a place to call home !

    What do you think ??
Does anyone live in a tent, or use one for an extra space for themselves.?

I'm planning on living in a tent for a while. I have a three man tent so I'm hoping to set up in my garden...

I don't have room for a tent right now, but when I still lived with my dad I had a tent in the front yard for just those purposes. One summer, rabbits came in and built a nest. It was great to watch the little ones grow up. I really miss it.

The hell with tents; build a cob house. If you can afford an old used car, you can afford a cob house.

I hate the idea of property.
It's like all the land here is spoken for.
I can't even go in the forest without feeling like I'm on someone's property.
    I'd love to build a tree house...but I can't just buy a tree...lol

Strawbale or cob houses are a great alternative housing. !....................
......but they are a more permanent structure.
    :flowers:

Chill a little FF, perhaps you have no use for a tent, but they are definitely not deserving of "The hell with tents". The tent (tipi, yurt etc.) has always been a sign of freedom and mobility. I think young people ( and many older people) find it impossible to think in terms of "building" something. They don't know where they are going, what they will be doing next, and need something mobile, so there is always the available feeling of freedom.

I have never been able to think of terms of building something permanent, ( I almost could now,..... almost ) and traveled around for many years, a few days or weeks one place, living 6 months here, a year there, and tents were perfect for those years of restless exploration and wanderlust. My family and I have lived at numerous alternative intentional communitees over the last 30 years, and we were able to visit these, and live there because we had a mobile life, and lived in tents.

A tent is light, compact, and can fit in a vehicle easily, so you can move whenever you need to. Many times friends, or people you might meet have land, but no housing, and so you would not be limited by that, and can reside with anyone who offers a place to put up your tent home.

My family actually lived on county land, near a park, undetected for 15 years, so if you have woods around , you might be able to live there for as long as you can get away with it. (camoflauge your trail ). It is rent free, and a comfortable alternative, whenever you might find yourself on the streets, (or overusing a friends couch), no real need to be or feel "homeless".

I have always loved the way sunlight plays on the tent roof, and the clear conversations of birds is so sweet, and it is so simple and natural.
They are inexpensive too, often you can find an adequate tent at a second hand store for under $20.00. Just get clear plastic tarp (better light), and you have an cheap and dry shelter. HOME SWEET HOME

When we first moved on to our property we lived in a wall tent. Well, our girls lived in the tent, my wife and I had an airstream. It had a wood stove in it and was quite comfy.
This is the tent, not the property.

I hear what you are saying, but having my own property is my realized dream. Here there is no one to tell me what to do or not do on it. It's my little 10 acre piece of earth to take care of.

I'm with you. Living on other people's land, especially without their permission, is not hip at all. Who would want to have to sneak around all the time? Sheesh..that would make me so uptight you wouldn't be able to pull a pin outta my ass with a tractor. And it's hard to entertain in a tent...haha. I like the idea of going in with others to start an intentional community. And when you have your own land, you can do things for other people--help those less fortunate. You know, like letting some poor soul who is having to live out of a tent to camp out on your property...haw haw
