    i haven't seen a thread about cream around here, so i thought it was duely needed

    they're pretty amazing, the worlds first supergroup, and they had a superbly unique sound.

    In the white room with black curtains near the station.
    Black-roof country, no gold pavements, tired starlings.
    Silver horses run down moonbeams in your dark eyes.
    Dawn-light smiles on you leaving, my contentment.

    I'll wait in this place where the sun never shines;
    Wait in this place where the shadows run from themselves.

    You said no strings could secure you at the station.
    Platform ticket, restless diesels, goodbye windows.
    I walked into such a sad time at the station.
    As I walked out, felt my own need just beginning.

    I'll wait in the queue when the trains come back;
    Lie with you where the shadows run from themselves.

    At the party she was kindness in the hard crowd.
    Consolation for the old wound now forgotten.
    Yellow tigers crouched in jungles in her dark eyes.
    She's just dressing, goodbye windows, tired starlings.

    I'll sleep in this place with the lonely crowd;
    Lie in the dark where the shadows run from themselves.

    with a sound riff and a wah solo. love cream.

    the first time i saw cream was their very first appearance on a stage in the u.s. it was march 25,1967 in a new york city movie theater. they opened the show as did the who for mitch ryder and the detroit wheels. the next day(easter sunday) the very first be-in in nyc happened in central park and the guys were known to have been wandering around at the be-in but no one knew who they were.

    here's the program listing naming which groups performed at that murray the k concert. 6-7 shows a day 7 days a week for 2 weeks. pretty amazing line-up....

    I don't really like Cream anymore. 'White Room' and 'Tales Of Brave Ulysses' are very good, and, barring the solo, 'Sunshine Of Your Love' is a good song. 'Badge' is decent, too.

    But I just don't rate Eric Clapton. Jack Bruce also sucks, and Ginger Baker can't keep time.

    I love cream, but clapton is probly my least fave of the three - a textbook definiton of power trio! Good stuff, I cant live without my disreali gears, its a classic. Great tunes indeed.

    I know almost every good cream song on guitar, and i can tell you one thing from my experiences:

    Clapton is a tad overrated. He is one of the all-time greats, but people put him in the same sentence with hendrix and stuff, when in reality he wasn't even the best guitar player from the yardbirds. not even second best

    i agree with part of that, he is a tad overrated, but only in the rock world
    if you listen to him playing the blues he's up there with the best, not in the same
    league as SRV, but with slow blues he's a king

    yeah clapton is a bit overrated, but he's still one of my favorite artists ever...

    I have a best of clapton so any of the popular Cream songs are on there. So, from listening to that, I have to say that I like Cream.

    I personally don't think Eric is overrated... This is mainly because I think his legacy is more due to his actual influence, rather than technical ability or 'genius'...

    When he achieved that sound with the bluesbreakers, he literally inspired thousands around the country to want to pick up a guitar...

    Anyway, that's what I think...

    Back to the subject... I've always loved Cream. I don't listen to them all that often these days, but they'll always have a special place in my collection.

    cream kinda invented hardrock, right? from what i hear they made a huge step into that direction at least. is it also true they played much louder and heavier on stage than on their records. i have bought disreali gears and i kinda expected some kind of psychedelic hardrock album, but i was totally wrong and a bit disappointed as well. i also heard clapton was playing with true passion and was pretty experimental in those days, i would like to hear that as well. anyone knows where i could find live recordings of cream in the sixties?

    I agree Cream may have added a bit to the invention of hard rock, but together with other bands. Don't forget Blue Cheer for example.

    I would put Clapton in the same league with SRV. You can't say one is better than the other. Clapton is a little more jazzy when it comes to blues as far as the Chicago blues goes. But SRV was influenced a lot by the southern blues having to do that he was from the south (Texas). Both of them were heavenly influenced by Freddie King. But Clapton's influences were B.B. King, Albert King, Buddy Guy, Hubert Sumlin. But especially Robert Johnson. Whereas SRV was influenced by Otis Rush, Buddy Guy, Jimi Hendrix, Lonnie Mack, and Albert King. There blues are much different from each other of course. But hands down they are blues legends.

    So what if you don't like Cream anymore. We all grow out of bands. There was a time when I didn't listen to cream for like 3 years. It because I was discovering new, great, and other music. But I wouldn't go as far as not rating Eric Clapton, and Jack Bruce doesn't suck. He wrote some nasty basslines littleman. Ginger Baker can keep time, he originally a jazz player, that was now playing in a psychedelic rock and blues band. If you can play jazz, then you can definatly keep time. They were the original "jam band" But you of course you are entitled to your own opinion. But I think you're wrong.
