While not the focus, the leading lady of this film survives the entire movie in her bare feet, only briefly wearing a pair of rubber flip flops in the beginning, before kicking them off, when she finds that they only slow her down in her father's muddy basement. Of course, water is a central theme, so it makes sense in context. Even Tarzan knew it: You can be a barefoot badass.
I remember "The fifth element" goes barefoot, and also, by the same actrice, Eloise in "The million dollar hotel".
I will check it out. Another is TAU. From a previous post of mine: "Semi-entertaining sci-fi flick about a young woman held captive by a loony rich genius creating an advanced AI (artificial intelligence). Best thing about the movie is the gal is very cute and is barefoot for all but the first few minutes of the flick. Decent looking feet, too. Hehe."
WOW. The actors conquer the world barefoot. And the audience are not allowed in the cinema without shoes, in case they wreck their feet on the carpet.
This thread prompted me to watch TAU again. I noticed there were several close-ups of the female leads somewhat attractive feet during the movie. Started wondering if the writer or producer has a thing for female feet ala Quentin Tarantino. I didn't make it through the entire thing - other than the barefoot lead, it's kind of boring once you know what happens.
Today two classic french movies came into my mind ... "Et Dieu .. créa la femme" by Roger Vadim from 1956 (english title "And God Created Woman"). Juliette always is barefoot in Saint Tropez (played by Brigitte Bardot who was Vadims girlfriend and muse then). "Notre Dame de Paris" from 1956 (english "The Hunchback of Notre Dame") with a barefoot Esmeralda played by Gina Lollobrigida.
"Forbidden Planet", 1956, Anne Francis barefoot for most of the movie. I have been noticing that there are a lot more commercials with barefoot people, mostly in the home. I think it helps to make it less "odd" to not have footwear on all the time. It's a start.
Another good movie is "The Truth About Spring," in which Hayley Mills plays a barefoot tomboy living on a boat with her father, played by her real life father, John Mills. Hard to find, though...although I found it on Youtube.
Here's one of those adds - although the barefooting in this one is done outdoors... Renovia Inc. Leva TV Commercial, 'Wife and a Mom of Two Gorgeous Girls'
I just watched a movie called "A Quiet Place". The main characters are all barefoot, to avoid making noise when walking. So-so movie overall
A Korean animation this time, called Seoul station, features a young couple, Hye-sun and Ki-woong losing their shoes in the commotion, when they are running away from a horde of zombies that suddenly overrun the city of Seoul in South-Korea. Of course, them being just animated cartoons, they never exactly feel bothered by their barefoot state, despite the numerous tough situations they encounter. Seoul Station (film) - Wikipedia
Another good barefooted anime is "Spirited Away." There's a scene where the protagonist, a little girl, must go to work in a bath house. She starts to put on her shoes, and is told to leave them as they won't be needed, and her socks too.
Yes, "Sen to Chihiro no kamikakushi". I know it. Makes sense in context, because she gets doused in water quite a few times during her stint at the bath house, and wet shoes are a miserable thing to wear.
