I walk around barefoot everywhere. I started getting these deep cracks in my feet and its just getting deeper. It doesn't go straight down but more sideways. Every time I step down I feel the pain.

Here's the bad part....I've been "clipping away" the dead skin around it, exposing raw skin.

So now realizing I"m my own worst enemy, I've quit the clipping, but the cracks aren't healing. In fact, I now have a sore area around my pinky toe.

Is it fungus? Because I had a friend who had ringworm on his foot and I got it on my hand, but in a much different fashion then whats going on with my feet.
I'm going to call the dr tomorrow but I just wanted opinions.

    Thanks!

yeah, call the doc, just to be on the safe side.
it might be a fungus; it could be a lot of other things too, most likely nothing major.
worst case, it might be (i stress the words 'might be') that you are pre-diabetic. at your age that is highly unlikely though.

don't pick off that dead skin! let it peel on it's own. give your feet time to toughen up.

be sure to check back with us here, and let us know how your doing.

well i have a dr's appt but they're actually healing. i haven't been walking around barefoot everywhere and keeping them extra clean. the pain is gone even though there is still some crackage.
i guess a lesson learned. don't pick your feet, it can hurt! :)

I am just like you and I go everywhere barefoot. In fact I haven't used shoes in about 2 years now. The cracks are normal. What it is, is your body compensating for the fact that you have no shoes. Your skin in thickening up naturally. Think of it as natures "shoes". The worst thing you can do is try to remove the dead skin. I haven't worn shoes in 2 years and I experienced the same thing you describe. It was painful at times, but it all goes away if you let it run it's course and you are left with thick skin where you need it if you don't use shoes.

The best remedy is to use a salt scrub on the cracked areas and then apply a lotion afterward. Be careful not to try and shave off or remove the thick skin as this is your protection when you walk since you don't use shoes.

    I hope this helps.

    start wearing shoes and socks

humans that can't protect their body don't last very long

clothing and foot protection is the way that humans transcend their physical condition. clothing and footwear are tools that humans use to protect themselves.

by shunning such things you are sending yourself back to the stone age.

There are countless tribes living in the Amazon, New Guinea, and remote African regions who have done with out shoes for 10,000 years or more. Some of them live completely naked. Shoes have only been around for a fraction of that time, and most common people in western societies only started wearing them on a regular basis about 100 years ago. If some people did without shoes for 10,000 years, what makes them a necessity now. Also they live in much harsher environments than ours, let say.... in the jungle.

I have been without shoes for about 2 years now and my feet have adapted back to the way they were designed. It is more comfortable for me to not have anything on my feet than to cram them into shoes and let my foot muscles deteriorate from non-use.

There was even an article in newspapers around the country (The Parade section) about a week or two ago, how tons of people are getting into barefoot running because sneakers are so bad for you. You should read up on some of this stuff.

haha guy you dumbass, humans are only weak because they have made themselves weak.

In fact you have it ass backwards. Shoes are really what is going to cause the detriment to your entire physical body, not your skin doing something natural like thickening up.

One sure-fire natural remedy for cracked bare feet is running or walking on the beach. The combination of the salt water and the abrasive properties of the sand acts like sandpaper and smoothes your skin nicely. The only thing is that I live 90 mins from the shore so I only get out to the beach a few times in the summer.

Worse. Then they started to hurt on a regular basis. Now I use a pumice stone to remove most of the excess skin periodically so that the cracks are less than you show here.

That looks like you have a problem there, I do not wear shoes either and my feet actually never got cracks in them. Your diet probably isnt high enough in fat so your skin isnt being lubricated well enough.
Cracked painful skin on your feet from going barefoot is not natural, since being in pain is not natural and is your body trying to tell you that there is a problem (which is not from going barefoot, but its easy to pass it off as that)

That pic doesn't look like a healthy heel. It seems you may be at risk for blood poisoning. That's why people are told to not scratch chicken pox. I have no medical training whatsoever, but thats my only concearn. Happy barefooting.

OK, well first I should let you know that Yes, I eat alot of fat in my diet and also, I am not in pain at all. Though the cracks may look bad they are not down to my primary layer of skin so they do not bleed or anything.

I think it's due to the fact that I haven't owned shoes in at least 2 years and when you have layer upon layers upon layers of skin it just starts to take on a cracked appearance around the parts that contact the ground the most and have to be elastic.

Thanks, Man. It's really no biggie that I don't own shoes anymore. At first it was a freedom thing and a way to save money, but now it's been so long since shoes have touched my feet that I am just more comfortable w/o any and have no real desire to buy shoes.
