Whats your take on older women dating / marrying younger men?

The definition for cougar seems to vary: anything from older woman seeking younger man to a more specific age gap between the two (8 years or more). Cubs are considered younger men who seek older women.

Any experience with this relationship dynamic and how do your friends/family react if at all ..?

 

I was 26 and my wife 36 when we met. I wasn't looking for and older woman. She was just smokin hot. My mother was a little sad cuz there are no children of mine. But she grew to love her very much.

It's all about compatibility. Age doesn't matter to those who are truly compatible with each other in my opinion. I'm on the other side of the spectrum where my girlfriend is the considerably younger one of the two, but I think the principles are the same for any relationship. If the two parties are right for each other, then I believe no one should interfere with their relationship.

 

I prefer to date people around my age, and it will stay like that for sure.

 

My friends mom is 9 years older than her dad, and she says it is a disaster, and that age difference is becoming more and more obvious.

 

Clearly, it all depends on the individual, and on each couple.

I find it interesting that society finds it so much more acceptable for a much older man to marry a young woman. When an older woman is seen with a man, its so often that the couple gets funny looks.

I personally see absolutely nothinggggggg wrong or off with the relationship, to me it comes really natural because I have maternal instincts that Cubs supposedly seek out.

I was talking with my mother on Thanksgiving... she is turning 50 in a couple weeks. She has always dated younger men. She married 2 that were 6-7 years her junior (my dad is 7 years older than her). Both relationships ended, but imo age had little bearing on their failures. She also doesn't see age as the reason they ended. However, she's recently started dating a man who is 46. I have my own opinions as to why the relationship hasn't taken flight, yet she blames it on her age. This is ironic because he's even older than her previous husbands were. I tried explaining that she was being shallow, superficial, and abusive toward herself to think men would only like her if she was younger than them. She's dead set on this believe though and has become somewhat obsessed with her aging.

I find the whole thing interesting. I've had many young men approach me. I'm 28, and I've had guys as young as 18 wanting serious relationships with me. Thats not possible seeing as Im in a serious committed relationship that I plan on taking to marriage. Just interesting.

Are you sure about that? I mean, I know I'm not married(yet? lol) or anything, but a lot of people seem to think there's something seriously wrong with me for having a girlfriend who's like half my age. They assume I must be manipulative, and/or that I must have failed in life so bad that I can't find a partner my own age. They question my mental state for believing in my relationship, implying that what I believe in is nothing more than a fairy tale. That she'll get tired of me soon and leave me. Some have even accused me of being a pedophile.

I've always assumed society was way more tolerant of relationships where the older party was female. The whole "MILF" thing. Society kind of glorifies the whole "older woman and younger man together" concept in my opinion. Or, am I wrong about this? Maybe it used to be the other way around, but now? The world is a pretty harsh place for men whose partners are much younger. After all, there is this popular view(generally among women) that all men are sexist and only focused on sex.
