Can someone help me out with this? In terms of how the average american is effected; is corporate personhood a good or bad thing? Are they immune to more or less when they are considered a person under the american constitution? I'm about to dig around the web for some stuff I just thought it would be cool to get some info from the community here.
my friend gave me this link its got some good stuff on the issue http://www.mcn.org/e/iii/afd/santaclara.html
I see it as a bad thing, as it gives corporations greater power than individuals have. Corporate "rights" have no expiration date, while we as human beings certainly always do! A corporation doesn't have to beat you, because it will pretty certainly outlive you and everyone else alive today. You may want to take a look at the movie "The Corporation," it's on YouTube and elsewhere. I've not watched it yet, but I will eventually. Apparently it covers that issue from one side or the other.
It's a terrible thing. They are immune to more. Look at Las Vegas. That place is a hellhole as far as I am concerned. Big casinos who have their own district and they operate their businesses outside of the laws of the city itself. The place is in the middle of the desert, yet they pump in vast amounts of water to keep their glorious fountains going - or isn't there a casino that is set up to be flooded like the streets of Venice? Anyway, the casino companies and other various corporations don't even pay Federal taxes or dues within the casino district. So they are making a huge profit and aren't even liable to put money back into the local community. The town is so run down, badly policed and in shambles that even prostitutes and pimps will pick you up from a casino and drive you off to the outskirts of town. I suggest that you watch this movie - http://www.thecorporation.com/ It's available online and in movie stores.
