Spanking is not birching or hitting with a belt. And, they told us in GS, the Supreme Court (simply defining what "reasonable" meant in each state's child abuse statute) said a bare hand hitting a clothed buttocks was reasonable. But nothing more.

And, they outlawed ANY corporal punishment in Sweden in 1979. And... Well, I'll leave it there, we all know about Sweden. (And some American brought up a good point some time back, with a letter to a TV news magazine once. You can't hit an adult. In prison even, a guard could never hit an inmate, unless it was absolutely necessary. Not even a spanking. Etc.)

And, they are allowed to spank any kid, for any reason, in public school, the SCOTUS said, just post-Warren Court. What business does a stranger have hitting your kid, when you never would?

And lastly, being strict and corporal punishment are not the same thing. You can be overly strict, and never lay a hand on your child.
