There are Copperhead snakes in the hole where our water meter is. Hubs went to turn the water off to deal with a leaking shower and found them. I guess we can call the Water Dept on Monday since they own the meter. I mean you can't shoot down in there and Hubs is disabled = can't move fast at all. He is still freaking out. Last time my son and I looked in there we found a Black Widow Spider...
Im not exactly sure what type space you have there. if you have an old CO2 fire extinguisher. you can freeze the snakes without really harming them, regular bags of ice will work too.
Seriously.... Let the water department deal with it. But you could make a smoke bomb too, but with him not moving so well... Just wait till Monday.
Ive handled snakes my whole life. I still wouldn't fool with them myself, unless I absolutely have to. My guess is the water dept will pay for a professional to come get them....
I would think your area would have some kind of animal control . Call the police , ask them who removes posinious snakes . desert rat
Is he sure there copperheads ? They have an arrow shaped head .Even if he's not it's best to get someone who is familiar with snakes . Copperheads can be nasty and are very aggresive sometimes . I almost got bit by one myself , who tried to strike me . They are responsible for most of the snake bites in America . There venom is over rated but should still be avoided . Thing is will you have to pay for there removal ? I'd call the county , as I'm not sure if the water dept. is going to deal with it either .
They were worried because the husband has limited mobility....wouldn't be able to get away quickly if shit hit the fan. Better left with professionals.....or adventure seeking teenage neighbors On a side note: a few years ago, there was this kid cliff jumping into a nearby lake. I've jumped off the same cliffs more times than I could count. He landed on a copperhead breeding nest - hundreds of the bastards tangled together into a ball. Kid was dead before he reached the surface.....sad story. Didn't stop me from swimming there, but I took extra precaution after that. Correction: they were water moccasins, not copperheads. I always get the two mixed up
Good idea on iceing them but PapaWolf is right about the aggression. Those are some hateful little bastards and a bite is gonna mean pain maybe muscle damage... I'm kinda ignorant and think the idea of freezing them would work... Not that you'd pick them up barehanded but with a hook, hoe, rake you could get 'em out and relocate their snakey little asses.
get a video camera and throw a varmint down the hole and make one of those x vs x videos https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-GMiMF8dTPs"]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-GMiMF8dTPs
Better left with professionals.....or adventure seeking teenage neighbors __________________ You're right , leave it to the pros. a hook, hoe, rake you could get 'em out and relocate their snakey little asses. __________________ Yeah good idea too , if they can find a neighbor or someone who is quick . I was going to suggest a twelve gauge if they have one . Wouldn't have to get to close . Then again he would have to stand over the hole to hit the bottom . Not a good idea either .
Yeah, they are for sure Copperheads. I will call the Water Dept, Animal Control, Police, everybody (lol) on Monday. Maybe the Water Dept. will handle it. They don't open the box to read the meter anymore - they read them with a scanner from their trucks. That's probably one reason they've set up house in there because the box doesn't get opened once a month anymore. But if a Water Dept employee had to open the meter box, like to turn off service, they'd be in trouble.
Sounds like a job for professionals. No need to play with fire. Course if it was me I'd fashion a long stick with a noose and grab the bugger.
Another thing is he doesn't want to shoot down in there because he's afraid of hitting the water pipes or the meter.
How many are in there does he think ? Are they awake and alert ? I would guess they are hybernating this time of year . Of course where you are , i don't know if they hybernate at all . If there awake I'd think they would be coming out to find the sun in the day or to hunt . I could be wrong but I know they love the sun .
