Was September 11th an elaborate government plot? Is global warming a fiction espoused by shadowy elites? Does the Bildeberg group exist, and what does it do? What do you make of conspiracy theories? Do you buy into every one going and pray people will make up more? Or are they, at best, mindless drivel or, at worst, lunacies that detract from real issues of injustice and political significance?
Conspiracy theorism is, to a point, a natural human response. When we encounter a situation we cannot make sense of, or need somewone to blems, our brains naturally start asking questions, in order to try and justify a difficult thought in our minds. Personally, I think most of it is hooey... but it does interest me a lot. I'm a particular fan of the whole Waco thing, and I do believe Princess Diana was offed by the Royals.
Asking questions is natural, I would agree. But I think questions need to be targetted, searching, looking for plausible evidence. There are a great many cover ups and scandals, some hidden for very good reasons. Many of these point to genuine issues of injustice. The danger of mad conspiracy theories, however, is that they cover up these issues because they are louder, flashier, more engaging. It is the subtle issues, the unspoken ones, those that are quietly shuffled away from public attention that really need questioning....
Yes, I agree; the danger is that the conspiracy becomes more exciting than the real matter at hand. I have nothing else sensible to add at this juncture, as I have just woken up from a nap....
Everyone likes a conspiracy. Tip: If you ever want to write a book about something. In corporate some conspiracy. Even if it 2% of the book's main theme. You will captivate an audience
I totally agree that there is the real danger of covering up real issues that you could do something about with somthing that just seems more exciting. And I'm having extreme de ja vu as I discussed this in the pub at lunch
One of my own theories is that certain groups are behind the zaniest theories, which they create to discredit other conspiracy theories that are too close to the truth.
One of my theories is that paranoid crack weed hippies invent conspiracy theories to make their life more interesting, but are so fucked out of their head that they believe it's all true or part of a grander scheme to steal the reptile monarchy.
Hahahaha! Was that satire? The government will rule one day! If it wasn't, I'd like you to think about what you just said....
