Hey guys, pretty new posting here but a long time viewer of the hip-forums. I'm thinking about starting dreadlocks but I'm worried about something. I have long curly hair (loose curls) but its not that thick and I heard that you need thick hair to make good dreads. I like my hair as it is but I've always thought about dreads, but Im not sure I want to take the leap! I want a naturally, friendly look. Heres a pic but its 6 or 7 months old so my hair is longer now and I usually part it. I'm the one in back Thanks for your input!
your hair will lock without problems... use the neglect method if you want a natural look, you could backcomb to but dont try and maintain them... thats dumb IMO. NO WAX! and wash them.
It should lock fine. As for it being thin...depends on what you're going for. Thick locks on thin hair will leave lots of spaces in between each dread (gaps/holes where you can see scalp and root, but no dread.). You'd have to go a little thinner on the size, I'd think. No matter what you're going to have spaces though, because your hair's thin. And I think that over time it would get to be a problem..with the dreads growing (when your hair falls out of your head it remains in the lock.) and your roots maybe not being able to support the weight... I don't know though, that's just my own personal speculation. I have extremely thick hair, so you might be better off taking advice from somebody on here who has thinner hair. All hair dreads, and all dreads are beautiful. I say go for it...but make sure you're ready, it really is a big commitment.
