hi i hope one of you may be able to help... i am a little confused over the light issue with growing shrooms we are setting up a grow bag by the looks of it where we are is pretty cold and so we were going to use a reptile heat mat on a thermostat to control temp, and stuff, but how much light should the mushrooms be exposed to through the grow process, i appreciate the fruiting stage requires a change in light and temp but cant seem to find the info that i need any ideas please?
When the bag is first inoculated and in the process of colonizing, it should not be exposed to any light. Just keep it in a dark place. Once it is fully colonized and you want to fruit it, is when you expose it to light. Mushrooms don't need light to grow, the light is just a pinning trigger.
The light is indeed one of the pinning triggers (along with fresh air exchange and [arguably] temp drop). Some will say that constant or frequent light will improve yield, but this is debatable.
