My laptop is now... well... unfunctional. I can't enter windows because of a virus. In such a case, people who deal with such troubles, say "Condolences, you've lost everything." And well, I had an assignment inside I had to do all over again. Now I'm in an Internet Cafe.
Have you ever gone through such virus trouble?

Not once because I am anal about having backups of everything. Although, thankfully I have never had anything get so bad I had to start over. At work however, where time is of the essence, we will RIS a PC that is infected before we fix it because we can completely rebuild a standard PC in about 20 minutes. Fixing the virus manually would likely take longer than that.

But at work everyone saves their stuff on the network, so the local drives are just there to hold the software.

    Have you tried safe mode?

If that doesn't work, download something called knoppix. It's linux boot disk and it will allow you to access your hd and copy whatevere you need.

Or if it;s less trouble, redo the project. Either way, best of luck.

I had a "friend," who I know longer talk to. He used a combination of social engineering and hacking skills to get into my computer over and over and over again. I threatened to go to the police about him, switched to Linux, and never talked to him again. One of my best friends has been going out with him for a few months now, even though he is mean to everybody and made her his bitch. She cried every day because of him and she still got back together with him.

I think anybody who writes any kind of malicious code with the intent to unleash it onto the internet should be charged with destruction of property, breaking and entering, and a bunch of other charges relating to things like privacy.

That or if you have the means just slave the drive into another system (running AV of course) and scan and pull what you need. They make cable that with allow you to hook up a drive to an external USB port now. So you don't even have to know how to get inside a PC or slave a drive in. Just plug and pray.

    actually there was no virus...
but: my laptop's hard drive is dying (a natural death).
i have recuperated some files i needed urgently. and i will see how many i can still recuperate (wish me luck so that the hard drive won't explode while i do the job - i heard that's possible).
