I've lived communally with a bunch of new zealanders. but it wasn't in new zealand. :p

yeah, there are people who are interested around the country. But I don't know if anyone who currently visits this messageboard are interested. I definitely am but I have an agenda which goes with it which most hippies would be ideologically opposed to.

I'm pro-Israel up to a certain point and my socialism is very much tied in with my zionism as a result of the youth movement that I belong to. Most (informed) left wing people are (justifiably) slightly anti-Israel and so would have large clashes with me as to our ideals as my socialism is based on the kibbutz movement which dates from 1903 in Israel.

well i am more than slightly anti isreal.

however i don't think that would stop me from respecting or getting along with someone who is pro isreal. would make for interesting debates. i am always interested in the Isreali POV in justifying things. i saw a good BBC program from isreals POV, and have a good friend in isreal whom i debate with all the time. good times.

Megara, its because the palistinians are poor, the underdogs....

for every isreali that dies about 40 palistinians die.
the US has supported isreal huge amounts, palistinians have not.
isreal has exceeded internationally created boarders by a long shot....
isreal is an occupying force in palistine (yes they drive their tanks around it all the time)

I personally side with the underdog, as soon as IMO the palistinians gain the upperhand i will side with isreal. why does this logic work? because it promotes equality in the long run (even if its a slight seasaw action)

i however disagree with all WAR nomatter what side they are on. i applaud the new palistinian prime minister for putting their own guards along the boarders, this in turn isreal laxed its road occupations a bit its this trust and effort on both sides which is needed.

this isnt a football/rugby game though...

The US gives lots of aid to everyone, including the palestinians. The US has given more economic assistance to the palestinians in the last 10 years than any other nation. So its not like its completely one side

Thats very dangerous. Just because a nation is the favorite doesnt mean they are bad. Would you have rooted for the soviet union in the cold war? That is a scary proposition.

Balance of power is a failed system. Just look at the past few hundred years of european history. Its failure after failure of the balance of power

I think we all disagree with war. Hopefully this time peace can actually be worked out. We've come close before only to be disappointed.

Megara i am not arguing. you asked a question and i answered it.

whether its correct or not is irrelavent. it comes to perceptions and apperances. many people agree with my coments, and that is the fact that counts (just as in an election the winner is not the smartest, the nicest.... its the one that has the people behind them).

quick correction. the country that has given the palestinians the most aid in the last 10 years is Israel, not the USA. They've given over 1 billion dollars to the nation that is currently bombing the shit out them and is bent on their destruction. Weird, huh?

depends what the aid is directed to.

if the aid is directed to a cuase that benifits isreal then its not weird at all. if the aid is given without strings attached then i agree it would be very weird. if the aid is given for a moral humanitarian reason (like food or water) then its a nice gesture.

the US has given 1.3 billion between 94-03..either way, the two countries that have helped them the most are the ones they hate the most. Guess you cant always be loved :p

well, what happens is the Israeli government gives the Palestinian Authority the money. The PA was headed by Arafat and is now headed by Machmud Abbas (Abu Mazen). Arafat was noted for his corruption. The PA can do what it wants with the money. Funnily enough, not much of it got to the people it was meant to help. Thats why Arafats wife was living in an apartment in Paris on an allowance of hundreds of thousands of american dollars A MONTH.

It doesn't really matter though does it? Quit using this thread to argue about politics. I want to know if there's any communally living in NZ too. I mean, I don't think any of us are actually gonna do anything about the whole Isreal-Palestine situation while we communally live in NZ right? So why would it be contencious?

btw Sorry, it was actually my fault that whole conversation started.
