Hey all I live in Vancouver, B.C. and I'm feeling it's time to head out of society and join a commune. Something on Vancouver Islands would be nice but I'm really just trying to gain awareness of any around B.C. and find a place I can fit in. I really like the idea of the Highway Child Tribe, if there was a canadian version it would be amazing. Any ideas of some alternate living ideas? I really enjoy nature and while if I can't find a place to fit in I'll stay and do Computer Science I would way rather be away from technology or use it minimally.

Not off the top of my head. Try looking at WOOF, there might be some on there.

lol I started the highway child tribe IN canada, we just ran out of highways too quickly, so headed into the states. every few years weve attempted to build a bus tribe soley for canada, though the winters are cold, the hippies are few up here and its harder to make money on the road in canada, dont get me wrong Ive done it for years here before taking it into the states, though it is a harsher highway then the states for sure. theres a few communal spots in northern ontario, and eastern ontario I know. BC theres a few though they dont like outsiders much. You may be able to find some collectives in vancouver, Ive ran into a few , maybe also on saltspring, you just have to network a whole bunch. unfortunatley, the "hippie" scene in canada isnt as hardcore as the states, we have a few rainbow gatherings in quebec, though as most of us witnessed last years rainbow dissaster in BC not to mention the so called ontario rainbow family or the 100th monkey clan, consisting of a bunch of extremely unorgansied people most of wich who have never really done anything but go to a few music shows and post "nifty" fb posts on their page... I dunno brother... like I said, my suggestion is go over to saltspring and start networking.. wait.. I did hear about something going on in tofino for a while, not sure if its still around.. but ya, those could be your best bet. sorry dude I guess canada has just kinda burned me out..

Yup it is called Poole's Land AKA Symbiosis Ecovillage in Tofino. I was in Tofino early July 2013 and I loved it. I didn't hear about this Ecovillage until I got back to Ontario. I might go this summer as well. If anyone wants to join up with me that would be rad. I will be in vancouver on April 19th.

Thanks for all the info, yeah its true its not as easy in Canada it seems. Saltspring where I was planning to go and see what I can find out there. As to Tofino had no idea there were places out there but I'll try it out. I'm really new to this whole 'commune' thing, before it was just go off grid but after finding out they exist living in one would be awesome.

I'll check out more about this place thanks.

*EDIT MY god this place looks really beautiful I would love to join you, whats required for me to get involved with that place and join up do you know?

Planning on it, first time to, which is sad since I've never made it in the 4 years I've been smoking.
