I really would love to come to Amsterdam but im worried it may cost too much, my friend already knows of a hostel we can stay at for cheap but we have no idea how much it would cost to get there. If anyone has an estimate it would be much appreciated.

I think the cheapest way (although not the fastest way) is by bus.

Check this Bus organisation.. they go through Europe (a bit like the greyhound busses in the US I think) and are pretty ok (travelled to Paris this way twice). You'll be brought to the trainstation 'Amsterdam Amstel', which is about 5 subway-stops from central station.. or 1 trainstop.

There you'll have to choose the German website (http://www.deutsche-touring.de/00_start.asp?sp=EN) and go from there. I notice that their English website isn't all that English.. so choose 'Niederlande' for the Netherlands..

I'm in a bit of a hurry.. but if I check it out quickly I see that from Hamburg to Amsterdam will take you about 6,5 hours and will cost you about 37 euro (this is without discount.. you will get a discount if you are a student, <26 etc etc.. check the options!)

Ok.. hope this helped. If you need help with translation (Dutch or German) let me know!
