I just want to express how happy I am that the state I live in, my own vote was casted into a world change. Marijuana is officially legal in Colorado, even more so than in Amsterdam. No strings attached legal!! Except of course maybe the DEA getting pissy. It will be interesting to see how the federal government controls us hippies now!!

This could be the start of a new age of freedom!

I am really happy. I live in virginia, but you have to think about the domino effect. Hopefully the federal government doesn't put up much opposition

IMO the fed can't afford to battle Colorado. The economy sucks, here is the solution, if the fed pays money to attack this, they are out of hand and will lose a lot of support. I believe this will lead to the road of more states making it legal! The world is watching us now

I want to express how happy I am that your state exists.....

The feds can do nothing but the same they've done with mmj.... why? Because if they act very much, it will only piss people off more and hearld the end of an era of prohibition, while otherwise there will be a more gentle landing, and they will be able to hang on longer. You can't bust down every door in the state (or half of them) but you can quietly enforce elsewhere and try to minimize the show in legal states.

That's awesome... we now have "legal states"....

I'm 42 and from Illinois...the two things I have always wanted to see in my life are :
    1) what happened in Colorado and Washington State tonight
    2) the Cubs win the World Series

One down and now if the Cubs can just win the World Series before I hopefully die of old age one day my life will be complete.

So tell me...how does this affect drug testing for employment ? Does it change anything at all or does that pretty much stay the same.

SORT of sucks.... i heard this law has shitty levels that are considered intoxicated, while anyone who's smoked a little weed knows that's not how tolerance works with the stuff.

They could probably still cite federal law and fire you.

But this is a stepping stone.

You can also simply not work for them. Even while it's federally illegal, if half the state wants it legal, that's half their employees that will fail, or work next door.... do people drug test in colorado, anyways?

My assumption will be that government jobs like working for the post office will be strict with drug tests. Colorado has been marijuana friendly with medicinal marijuana. Your green card allowed you freedom, and the only people agaisnt it were government positions. But fuck working for the government!

I'm sure some businesses will be strict, but I honestly believe it will be fine, there's a difference between smoking pot on the weekends and going to work high, and people have come to understand that finally

    Ehh a small difference....

There may be a problem with "public intoxication" charges, if there's pissy cops or a buncha federal bs.

But generally, if you can function, and it's legal..... WHAT is the difference?

Each voter was a small but potent piece of history today. Good job to all.
    As for prohibition; good riddance.

To answer some of you good fellows questions about the state:
We still have a lot of opposition here in Colorado.
In cities such as mine, Fort Collins, we outlawed Medical Dispensaries in the last election (fortunately this time its up for vote again, so here's hoping). We also do some drug-testing, it's how I lost my recent job.
However in some cities such as Denver, the government is already lax on tokers. They will be the leaders of this New Amsterdam

There's still more positives than negatives though, and this new Amendment is sure to make some serious changes.

I truly hope it removes my good friend's probation and felony charge of marijuana. He deserves his freedom now.

I highly doubt it will be retroactive..... if he's taken a plea, he's probably in for the long haul.

I'd like to just throw out some things I was looking at. I was just reading about how will this new law should take form.

Can you still get canned from your job from failing a drug test?
Yes, I'm sure not every job would be willing to fire you or deny you employment, but just to be safe it's best to stay clean before a pre-employment drug test. It's up to you if you're willing to risk it during your work. I'm hoping this law should change in time to come

So how does this work? Where do you get weed?
Now that the law has passed, it's only a matter of time before it will take effect. First off, some special shops need to start up, I'm hoping for more of a coffee scene take on this industry similar to Amsterdam, articles I was reading was pointing towards more of a bar like medicinal shop. I'm a little disappointed with that, because this isnt the most attractive way to obtain marijuana. I'm unsure if it will be as easy to get from a gas station or not?

    When should this take effect?
I'm sure as of right now someone is on it. Here is the trick though. So these speciality shops are able to be shut down by local government (mayors) as well as the federal government, though I don't expect the fed to even start a crackdown unless some really big company starts earning a lot of money with this pot thing. In other words, the actual effect will most likely be more prominent in places like Denver and boulder, where as the more rural or suburban scenes may show more opposition. This is all speculation as of now though, it almost feels as if people weren't actually expecting this to pass and all of the sudden, there we go! We weren't ready to actually go through with this, so it will be awhile. I hope by 2013 there should be some noticeable changes.

Is the law in effect now? Can I go to Colorado and just smoke a bowl?
Hold back the bag of weed doc! Even though the law has passed, it still has to be signed! Our governor has 30 days to do so, and he isn't allowed to oppose. He basically was agaisnt the bill (in fact all of our mayors spoke agaisnt it. I'm curios to see if they change their minds for popular opinion) but he will, sign it, in which case the law will take effect. Not to say people aren't already celebrating this new ammendment right now.. But no point in visiting Colorado until it completely passes.

    How much should this cost?
It's hard to get a figure, I'm hearing it should be near the same of medicinal marijuana shop prices. But I'm sure you'll be able to purchase in smaller quantities now. As of, how much can I pay for a joint or a carton of joints or something, I don't know. An ounce should run from about $200-300 depending on how heavily it is taxed.

If I'm from out of state, can I visit Colorado or Washington?
Of course! Come on over man! Just remember to wait until this law is signed by the state governors beforehand. You may need to wait a couple of months before its even worth the visit

If there are any other questions I will try to clear them up, and I will also try to update this once I hear more (or see more!) by the way I'm from Colorado, and I was answering these questions from articles specific to colorados amendment 64. Once I get onto a computer, I will try to link some sites onto this post

I'm here in Oregon where Measure 80 failed to pass, but legalization in Colorado and Washington should provide momentum for future legalization here and in other states. The winds of change are blowing!

Even though they haven't got the framework for shops in place, and even though municipalities can ban them, am I correct that as soon as the govenor signs it, possession of up to an ounce is legal, as is the cultivation of your own six plants?
