hey i was hoping someone could help me out here - i'm not a fan at all of the cliche' colognes that men wear b/c i dont think they fit my personality. However, i do wanna smell nice for the ladies so i was wondering if someone could recommend an organic or natural alternative. Does anything like it exist? and no... i do not mean patchouli- Thanks
haha. body odor's the best cologne! my roommates are colognoholics. they spray axe as air freshener BEFORE FUCKING BED!!! WTF FFFFFFFF!?! i hide under my covers because i'm paranoid about all the little cologne molecules getting on me. it's pollution. aggh maybe you could just give them flowers and tell em to smell those instead! wish i had a good answer instead of a rant. peace
there are plenty of blends you can make on your own out of essential oils. I would suggest starting with a base of almond oil, or calendula infused olive oil, and then add the oils I understand you do not prefer patchouli, however you may change your mind if you blend it with other oils. some of my favorite combos with patch are sweet orange, lime, lemongrass, sandalwood, lavender. if you're totally against the patchouli i would suggest sandalwood which is wonderful and earthy all on it's own.
I love to mix Essential oils and it make wonderful perfume. There this place www.blackphoenixalchemylab.com that makes interesting perfum blends but they do take a long while to ship. High quality stuff though. But you don't have to do that just get some musk and mix with vetiver and say something like lavender.
you can make cologne yourself at home. the complete book of essential oils and aromatherapy by valerie ann worwood has easy instructions for making cologne yourself, without the use of the toxic chemicals that pollute commercial colognes. all you need is pure filtered or spring water, high-proof vodka, and an assortment of essential oils. some good fragrance blends for men who are sick to death of patchouly might include cedar & sage and/or lavender, sandalwood & cedar, and frankincense & myrrh. sandalwood with cinnamon, and maybe a dash of cedar, vetivert, patchouly or pine, will smell like autumn leaves. a nice "foresty" blend might start with a base of sandalwood, cedar or vetivert and blend pine, juniper, lavender, thyme and marjoram on top of that. the book also gives some sample recipes for cologne blends to get you started.
Yes..i would say go w/ the 100% natural oils..they smell delicious.. personally i like to wear rosemary oil, lavender oil, melaluca oil (tea tree), or even vanilla oil... I hate patchouli..it is too "HIPPIE" for my liking..so i suggest going to ur nearest health food store or look it up on the net... good luck sweetie..
i wear clary sage in a little ceramic or clay vial around my beck. it's the most heavenly smell in the world
Be careful with clary sage if you are pregnant. It can cause miscarriage. Also you shouldn't drink alcohol while wearing it. It will increase the effects of the alcohol. Most essential oils need to be mixed with a carrier. Even plain canola oil from your kitchen will work. Lavender, Tea Tree, and Chamomile are the only oils that can be worn without first mixing them with a carrier. Kathi
I put Essential oils directly on my skin with no ill effects. I have had a friend on occasion who put on something like cinnamon and they have problems because their skin is sensitive. So I tend not to agree with Eos always needing a carrier oil.
my friends make some lovely blends, frangrance and essential, so if you care, ask. www.crystalmountain-aromatics.com my faves are the elementals.
they are great for you and your mode of transport: the oil absorbs into the cork and acts like an oil warmer.
It's great that you haven't had any problems. But most people have reactions. Some even get serious burns from the oils. Cinnamon can cause a nasty burn if not used properly. So can a lot of other oils. In my classes they said to only use tea tree, lavender, and chamomile by itself. If you use a carrier oil like canola it doesn't change the fragrance at all. Other oils like olive or almond will change the smell a bit. Almond usually makes it even more pleasant. Kathi
I love that! Maybe I will treat myself to a birthday present, And she even has a Capricorn oil, I love planetarys!@! When I took aromatherapy they also said not to apply oils directly on the skin to people you don't know about because they may have a reaction. Though I'd have to say that its more of precaution rather than A hard and fast rule that most folks will have problems. If you find your skin is sensitive then add some almond oil. Testing on yourself is fine, but you should never *test* on anyone else without their permission. Now I'm not talking about slathering cinnamon oil on, but a dab here and there smells really good!
I work at the Body Shop, and we carry essential oils. A lot of people come in for sweet orange and patchoulli to mix it together. I personally like Bergamot. If you are near the Body Shop though, go to one and ask for the essential oils.
I spilled many an oil and I'm sensitive. I worked for Kerry for a while... what I learned is cinamon goes on hair only, not near the scalp, and the diff between cinnamon BARK oil and Cinnamon LEAF oil was a long, painful night. Thereason I use carriers is expense, but I find that oils diluted in water and in a spray bottle do well.
I've been dabbling in aromatherapy for yrs....I wear lavender and patchouli by themselves...other oils I definitely dilute...got a nice burn on my neck from putting some oil on...it was visible, and people kept on asking me what I was allergic to...my neck on one side was bright red! I talked to Crystal Mountain yesterday, and ordered some Scorpio oil (since I'm a Scorpio, and I love patchouli!). Thanks for the link, Drumminmama!
l occitane makes some nice natural smelling ones. I have alergies and want to strangle people when they wear it too strong.
patchouli... i love it!! it mixed with sweet orange... mmmmmmmm smelly goodness!! tryyy... maybe frankinsence (cant spell) or cedar?? i dont really know for guys
