so, it is hard for my family to afford college for me. my dad lost his job, and so now our funds obviously aren't the same. and now, instead of going into what i want, which my parents supported, they want me to go into something that i can get into immediately and make money in really quick. i really do understand that our family needs more income, but i am not about to go to school for something i don't like at all, or take on a job i don't like at all. i mean, once i get even the bachelors, i will have to go even longer, it's a sad vicious cycle that i have to endure...
http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/ if you're going to absolutely refuse to take a job just because you don't enjoy it, you might as well practice sitting on the street corner with a sign and a money cup.
i rely on my parents for money due to me not having another job right now. also, i feel like jobs are pretty senseless and are ass backwards in their payment and employment methods. i really don't feel like a job is needed, there's other ways to make money, and better things to do with my time. but really, i am saying, how can a low income family, or a kid like me, be able to go to college, work to pay off the part of your tuition that the fuckers don't cover, and then graduate to find that your job is already a obsolete, and that your debt is just suppose to be accepted. i mean, are you serious, i have serious anxiety over money, especially owing money. i really don't like how a shitty education system is needed for even sub-par jobs these days. fuck this western world, truly. if i had money, if i had the opportunity i WOULD leave this place. but like most, i don't have the means to do that.
I am a child of a low income family in college, working, and paying my own way through. It is possible, especially if you are intelligent and/or make good grades. It is possible. Your unwillingness to get a job will probably become more and more of a problem as time progresses. You shouldn't refuse to work while your parents work their asses off too be able to pay for your education.
... and also, youfreeme, you are right. i just was venting. i really do realize alot of the problems, yet i have an unwillingness to change. i really do feel guilt with my parents, they would do anything for me. i just hope a job that is right for me can happen.
welcome to the real world, hehe. My suggestion is to take out loans and pick a major that pays. Not philosophy, that major is reserved for people with trust funds. being a lawyer, doctor, or pharmacist is a huge commitment. You could major in math or chemistry or business - you will make money there. Forget the liberal arts majors accept economics. Now if you don't have any idea what to do and don't want to work too hard you can major in education and become a teacher. If you go this route I would suggest going to community college first where it is cheap and finish off at a university. You will be lower middle class your whole life, but, you will have your summers off and government benefits..and the job is not too hard and some find it rewarding. My suggestion is to try and understand how much time you have on this planet and start making decisions...not going with the flow. Think about it...what is the point of going to college and majoring in English or History (unless you are getting an advanced degree)? Other than the pleasure of learning I can't see the point..and you do have access to a free library.
what did you want to do? what are you planning on studying now? two thoughts: search and search and search for grants...the more info you have about grants in particulr or the financial aid at a school the more you can work it to your advantage, but i won't lie it may take a lot of research also, in this day its rare for people to have one career...maybe go into this new field for a few years then you can afford to go back on your own...may sound like a waste, but im just proposing a new way to look at the situation
all your replies have been helpful, thanks. i have thought about being a teacher for a while, i liked teaching younger kids when we had to do school projects in high school. i wanted to get into something like environmental science, but am not sure what. i am not the best at math either. i am going to look into grants more now. thank you.
Join AmeriCorps. Or the Army. I have more money for school than I know what to do with. Take out student loans. It doesn't matter what your credit looks like.
You need a college degree to join AmeriCorps and the Army is no walk in the park and it takes 4 years of being in the army before you can get the college money. I'd rather be in jail for 10 weeks than go to boot camp. Boot camp is basically jail where you have to exercise all the time and you don't get to sleep very much.
i definitely am against the army. i don't feel any need for someone to give me a structured lifestyle outside of what i think is appropriate for myself. my life is well, MY life, not the money thirsty recruiters or an ass hole drill sergeants. i understand the money part of it, but i really am not one for authority or someone telling me what to do. i have also thought about joining americorps, and realized you need i think it is 2 years in college beforehand, it will all work out, some days it just is really over whelming.
to be honest it kind of sounds like you are a bit sheltered if you think you can just pick what you like doing. Most people don't like their jobs and are just working for the money, that's the norm. You have to suck it up and start making money so you can afford to do what you want later. I agree that spending however many years in a degree you don't like is stupid but you should be working your ass off in the meantime to make the money to do the degree you want. Lots of college students are studying and working and supporting themselves. It's possible, but it takes a lot of hard work and sacrifices. Doesn't really sound like you're up for it.
Good morning, interesting bit that rises a question: why is that? We tried a discussion about that topic in the german forum. But 1.5 people talking isn't really a discussion . Regards Gyro, going to his job in 10 minutes and loving it
