I was fortunate enough to meet this surfer, he made coconut ashtrays for a living in Mozambique and just surfed. He taught me how to make them and now I'm selling them too. It's a fun hobby. View attachment 45005
In todays market cocos de mer as nature made them are generally the most valued, while those that have been turned into 'useful' objects are usually worth less...have one fashioned into a container with a hinged lid.
cool. Ive made ashtrays using weird growths off pine trees. Usually areas where limbs had been cut and knobs created. Just cut em in half with a chainsaw.
