When I meditate I am drawn to this quite often, sometimes colourful blobs moving around, sometimes psychedelic style patterns, sometimes empty wide open orange/pink 'spaces' sometimes some strobing mixed in. I can be quite deep into a meditation at least time by the clock wise and these things persist and attract attention. My best guess is they are in fact useless distractions, am I right ? And if not using the empty visual space as part of meditation, the empty expanse of internal vision often comes with thoughtless states. I always feel I should not be focusing on merely the visual internal field and have broader awareness without focus. They are rather alluring and I want to drop them more easily. I often end up treating them like thoughts and just acknowledge and then try and not focus on them/let them dissolve but they keep on a coming, trying to draw me in. Any experienced meditators have an approach to these phantom visuals ?
Thanks for the reply...I am not sure what the reply was. It could be these things just are given the doors quote or is that your signature ? Let them be and pay little attention or the quote of my original post meaning the same ? I think I had it then, they exist, they come, they change, they go, just be broadly aware rather than focus on them I suppose just like thoughts they are the sense phenomena of closed eyes.
I used to get green orbs , lines flitting and interesting shapes flitting around with eyes closed , very much psychedelic in nature. Doesn't happen any more. I miss them.
