Does anyone know of any bands that utilize classical music but modernize it? Incorporating hip-hop or such genres with the classical sounds?

Also, does anyone know of any classical music that strongly emphasizes female vocals?

well, metallica had a symphonic orchestra do their stuff...and it translates very well!!

and as for female vocals?? well, opera. try jessye norman. also, old chants. look up Beatriz of Dia and Hildegard of Bingen. Beatriz was a troubadour in the 12th century, and I know there are modern recordings of her music. Hildegard was a nun, but a fantastic poet and musician.

Listen to the band Invert. They're modern classical music who take fragments of older pieces and "modernize" them quite well. It's adds a new spin to the old.

Also, if you're into opera type stuff, you can always check out Avantasia. There's both female and male vocalists, with really awesome symphonic music. Check 'em out.

dimmu borger, Children of bodom, dragonforce, Cradle of filth,

Apocaliptica- a cello quartet the play transcribed metal songs (mostly metalica (I beleve this is where metalica got the idea for the whole symphony trip) and they play classical songs too mostly romantic era
