I watched this again last night for kicks. I love this movie. I think Portugese (I know I spelled that wrong) is a gorgeous language. Does anyone know the exact history of this story and the photographer?

I think it may be may favourite film, top 5 anyways

and interestingly enough the guy who played Knockout Ned is a wicked musician too! He was the dude in the life aquatic who played all the portugese Bowie covers, and his solo CD is pretty excellent aswell. His name's Seu Jorge if you wanna check it out.

I'll do that......and btw yovo I asked you awhile ago if you could share any info on the montreal scene with me. Been thinking about visiting and I saw some posts where you mentioned spending time there. could you let me know about the nightlife, clubs, casinos, bars, stripclubs, etc?

This is a great one, it used to be my favorite movie. I also really like the sound of the portugese language in brazil, its real rough and texturized but smooth in the way the words connect.

for real? I didn't know that, those cover versions were great, probably one of the few things that I liked about "The Life Aquatic".

I enjoyed it, you'll notice a huge Scorsese influence though.
I think what I like about this movie most is it's the "depreciation" of violence. I don't think that I've seen this in a "gangster" movie before, there's murder and violence everywhere but it's never glorifying as opposed to Scorsese and Tarantino films.
It's just normal...you see kids shooting people because they stubbed their toes or something and I've no doubt that this is what still happens everyday in brazilian favelas (it's based on the gang wars in rio from the 60s/70s).

oh yeah and Li'l Zé is probably the most hilarious gang boss ever
