I hate going into stores and seeing Christmas stuff up in mid-October...it's like they're trying to rush and make the time go by too fast, and I agree, it loses its magic that way.
on haloween, i saw people dressed as santa handing out candy ya know somethings very wrong when your haloween costume is santa it really freaked me out
a quote from something I wrote on my site ages ago that is relevent to this: "Why do you think you see Christmas commercials and so much hype a week before thanksgiving? Because there is no money to made with thanksgiving. So companies start Christmas bull shit because thanksgiving is the one rare holiday that isn't really about material items, it's about being personal with people that are close to you. Companies don't want people to be personal. They don't give a shit about people. They are in the holiday spirit for the all mighty dollar. They want people to be materilistic and outdo their peers and spend money so so the comapny execs can be rich and laugh their asses off at us for being so naive. Well, before I get ahead of myself, I'll leave you to think about what I have said."
Oops! As soon as I posted that I remembered Americans celebrate Thanksgiving in November, or is it December?
They start heavy with the toy commercials before the US Thanksgiving so everyone will be ready for "black Friday". Black Friday is a huge shopping day in the states.
Black friday, thats a good song (megadeth) Yeah, its just annoying as fuck to see xmas shit months ahead of time.
Seemed really bad in the 90s. Sometimes they would start the Christmas advertising and music in stores in September. That's crazy. .
Just go to any mall or department store in September and chances are, they already have Christmas trees and decorations for sale. I love Christmastime, but Christmas is in December, not September. Heck, some stores have "Christmas in July" sales. Cash America Pawn tells people to "Layaway NOW for Christmas" in June. I guess before long Christmas season will be perpetual, beginning on December 26, the day after Christmas.
Election season is perpetual too now. Election 2008 coverage began the day after the Congressional elections in 2006. It's two more years of non-stop media coverage and sensational money-raising campaigns for the national committees. .
I hate it. I agree with the above posters. It's horrible that they do this because it definitely loses its real appeal about gift giving. Plus it seems to be more about I want this and this, rather than the true meaning of Christmas anymore. Things are way too rushed in today's society.
ahhh seeing christmas decorations in stores in october drives me CRAZY!! just like when someone wraps my birthday present in christmas wrapping paper somehow it just makes christmas less special..
