I'm talking about like shopping district and malls. I hear a lot of people complain of premature decorating etc. and people also complaining that it's religious etc. and should all be taken down. I think that's all nonsense, the religious aspect of it, I don't own a mall, I don't run a mall, I don't have a shop in a mall but yesterday while I was the mall I was looking at all the colorful decorations and it hit me. The decorations have nothing to do with religion or holiday traditions, they're designed to stir the feelings inside of the consumers that Christmas is coming and little Timmy needs a Xmas present under his tree. And it's a really ingenious concept, but I bet in a lot of circumstances, it works. So that's my reasoning behind "premature decorating". Isn't to piss of the whiney atheists, its to get them to spend money in that mall. Even atheists celebrate Christmas with their family and many still buy gifts for people but just like, be a dick about it on social media how they don't believe in the consumerism of it all but from what I can see and think clearly now when I see it, is that they're designed to bait you to spend money, and it's working.
i call them mid winter's eve decorations, and don't sweat the christer bullshit. they're generally paid for by the merchants who want to make a killing from the seasonal feeding frenzy. but i don't find that detail so hard to ignore either, when i know that it also reminds people to try a little harder, its only a week, we know we can do it, to act a little bit less like assholes.
well yeah, of course it's about spending money rather than forcing religion. it's still fairly annoying.
I'd never seen it as "forcing" religion, just a lot people complain that Christmas decorations is a Christian thing and not everybody is Christian. You know, when I put up my Xmas tree, it's just to make the house look different for 2 months a year. Creativity. it's a fun thing.
Atheists are useful idiots for the people who want to destroy cultural traditions and replace them with whatever they deem appropriate and "politically correct." And I am who doesn't really care much about the holidays anyway because they've been so corporatized and have lost any meaning they once had.
I think the people who are overly annoyed by such things should simply keep their trips to the mall/shopping centre to a minimum this time of the year. If its your across the street neighbour who fanatically indulges in christmas decorations and you're a bit concerned about energy waste... yeah that sucks.
Love it! Everything is so pretty out there and puts one in a good mood to shop, and I love colors and pretty things......Sure beats the normal every day look of shopping for things.....Pretty, pretty time of year!
People are annoyed with everything these days. I think we can all tolerate decorations for a month or two. This shouldn't be an issue. Seems like there's very little joy these days, so let's at least enjoy the pretty sights.
of course malls decorate to remind people it is christmas and therefore they should spend and consume. rinse and repeat. Why else would they bother? I really can't think of a worse place to go than the mall during christmas https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IY_bhVSGKEg However, my town leaves white lights up all year downtown, which I love. They criss cross across the street from tree to tree and light post to light post. and during Christmas they add some other touches (wreaths, etc). It is very understated and pretty and they do it to make the town pretty..which DOES encourage people to come downtown and spend money, but whatever. I like it.
"cultural traditions" are useful excuses for people who hate logic and want to pretend it makes them smart to do so. yes there are some wise traditions, these come from indiginous experience however, rather then religioius tretests and hierarchies. winter solstice is a natural result of the planet's tilt and orbit, and a natural day to celibrate having made it half way though another winter in the northern hemisphere, and summer in the southern. (also malls aren't public spaces. don't take my word for it. try holding a political rally in one) and yes, creativity is a very good thing. its what makes us human. telling everyone to pretend the same things, is neither.
