After Jesus Christ was murdered the New Testiment was written and the Bible was complete. All the teachings of Christ were included and a new, innovative religion and philosophy rapidly spread throughout the Middle East and then to Europe. But were all the Teachings of Christ really included? Is Christianity really the philosophy based on the words of Jesus or is it really the creation of St. Paul and St. Peter? Basically when the two saints traveled to spread the Word, they preached what they liked of Christ's teachings and left out what they didn't like. They were very succesful in spreading the "word". The Roman Catholic Church formed years later and suprisingly Christ's Gnostic teachings were still being practiced. The church did whatever it could to supress Christ's religion. They demanded obedience and order. They converted and killed and hid away the scriptures that were so remaniscent of the eastern religions. (where do you think Christ went during the period of his life that is missing from the Bible. Do you really think he went into the "Wilderness" between the ages of 13 and 30? No he was in China and India learning from the Buddhist monks and Hindu sadhus and there is documented proof of this in Eastern scripture. He had become very popular and had a great following in the far east but he wanted to return to his homeland and preach to his people) Anyways the church would have had a hard time controlling self-realizing, enlightened, hippie, liberals. They wanted confirming, satisfied, conservative sheep so Gnosticism went underground and Christianity branched out all over, so on and so forth. So anyways they were successful in supressing the teachings of Jesus who actually believed in Dharma, Karma, reincarnation, even various dieties that represented important aspects of nature and human life. Most importantly he preached free interpretation which no Christian church, branch, denomination ever has, even today in our modern society. If you dont believe me just do the research. Get the Gnostic scriptures at any book store. And if you still dont believe then what reason do you have to believe the Bible? I've read stuff on the Gnostics, and yea I don't think it speaks well of the Catholic Church to have ruthlessly eradicated most Gnostic groups and their texts once they have the Roman Empire under their thumb. Though the Gnostics aren't all as appealing as you might think, many of the Gnostic weren't really the "hippy liberal" type, although they were more tolerant of other sects than the mainsteam Church was. Gnosticism took heavily from the Platonic model of the universe, it was extremely dualist and believed that we live in a physical world that is opposed to an abstract world. All things of physical matter, they believed, was all evil, including and especially the body. Opposing this physical plane is supposed to be an absolute good, abstract universe overseen by the true God (the abstract God was good, and since everything has an opposite, the physical plane is ruled by a physical, spiteful mean God, which they often say was the God of the Old Testament). According to the Gnostics certain people are imbued with a "pneuma" (I think that's the word) in their body as well as the soul that everyone is supposed to have. The pneuma is supposed to be this little spiritual piece of the abstract world (which is absolute good) that somehow fell down to the physical plane and got trapped inside a human body. The usual goal of a Gnostic was to enlighten himself in Gnostic teaching enough that his pneuma spirit would be able to make its way back to the abstract paradise after death. How do you know you have that special pneuma? You're supposed to know it when you're enlightened enough I don't really think the Gnostics were necessarily that much better than the Catholics though. Most Gnostic groups were really ascetic and were hardcore on being rough on the body and not indulging it, since it was evil. We also have the Gnostics to thank for the Catholic clergy's celibacy policy, which was one Gnostic idea the Catholics liked and took. Except some Gnostics believed in complete celibacy - that no one should have sex, because all we'd be doing is trapping another poor abstract spirit in a cursed human body. I thought better of the "libertine" sects of Gnosticism, they reasoned that since everything in this world's inherently evil, then there's no point in worrying about it and just do what ya like. Yeah, so that's what I think about them. They're interesting though, even though I'm not Christian at all. I just can't buy their package anymore than the more mainstream Christianity.
I'd say it was those two scoundrels. Peter was a male chauvinist, eaten up with jealousy of Mary M and John the son of Z, and was not a man of his word, nor loyal! Paul is untrustworthy, since he initially tormented and murdered christians, it's not an unreasonable deduction that he didn't become a christian, he just infiltrated for a more direct hit. He never even heard the words of Jesus, he didn't know the truth. All his so-called masterpieces in epistle form show that quite plainly. They are nothing but rhetoric, dressed up in studied elegance. He didn't learn this stuff, he was this stuff, long before it was stuff! Actually, the truth was their fear, it didn't fit with their agenda, and they couldn't adapt, so they invented their own truth. Besides the fact they didn't even recognize it in the first place. How do you teach something you have no comprehension of? I think, more than 'believed', he knew. We must believe what he knew. That's absolutely right! Religion is 100% ignorance, falsehood, and death. Truth is salvation. Good job! I love it. The Nag Hammadi and other uncanonized texts will shine light even into the darkness imposed by the true heretics upon the canonized bible. The truth is in there, just don't look where someone else is pointing! They're available free online. Just click here. i don't believe in the inherent evilness of the physical world, nor in the evilness of sex. sex is sacred, and this world is a gift. so they're not for me.
Yes, I agree. Of course that is dependent upon how it is treated, whether it is treated as a sacred thing, or used in the treatment of our own issues. That happens a lot. That doesn't make it evil. Evil is nothing more than the absence of love. Darkness where there is no light. Light and love are partners. Along with knowledge. Ignorance=darkness=evil=void of love
I think once some really cool philosopher said, Evil= Pessimism Good= Optimism hmm.. with this logic we can see why Gnostics didn't survive that long. hahah
Great post, there are amazing things you can discover about chirst, that he probably had a wife, and some sacred divine cosmic union sex to... that he traveled to india and what not, and that he used kaneh-bohem in certain rituals, which is known as pot, mary jane, ganja, marijuana and so on... it was basically this oil that contained pounds of budding cannibus tops and other ingredients and they would get all soaked in it in order to induce a mystical experience.. http://www.cannabisculture.com/backissues/cc11/christ.html -Don't agree with many of the conclusions in the article, but it is a good start on the evidence that christ used pot in certain rituals. Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you. John 14:17, KJV by far, the best understanding of christ comes from yogananda's line of gurus, they are releasing a full collections of his writings on jesus for the first time, check it out. https://www.srfbooks.com/Item.asp?id=3144 here is the author on the book "In titling this work The Second Coming of Christ, I am not referring to a literal return of Jesus to earth....A thousand Christs sent to earth would not redeem its people unless they themselves become Christlike by purifying and expanding their individual consciousness to receive therein the second coming of the Christ Consciousness, as was manifested in Jesus....Contact with this Consciousness, experienced in the ever new joy of meditation, will be the real second coming of Christ — and it will take place right in the devotee's own consciousness." —Paramahansa Yogananda thanks for the link, I see Christ as one of the great realized beings that graced us with his being. I seek to learn more about him, but more then that, i seek to be one with the christ heart that loves god with all the heart, mind and soul, loves the neighbor as oneself, sees god in all, and has the eternal compassion. I seek to be totally nonviolent, never think, do or say anything that could ever harm anyone. also check out this, from www.ramdasstapes.org, Neem Karoli Baba's teachings on christ. "You must accept the teachings of Christ and follow them. Christ said to be like a little child-never think or speak anything, that could harm anyone ....... He was crucified so that his spirit could spread throughout the world . He sacrificed his body for the dharma. He never died, he never died. He is Atman (The Soul) living in the hearts of all........Why was Christ so maligned?" Maharajji was asked."It is so with all saints, they see only love in everyone. You should not speak, hear or do evil. You should see love everywhere and in everyone. See the good in all." excerpts from Miracle of Love Stories about Neem Karoli Baba by Ram Dass 'You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind." This is the great and foremost commandment. "And a second is like it, 'You shall love your neighbor as yourself.' On these two commandments depend the whole Law and the Prophets." (Jesus as quoted by Matthew 22:37) "A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another, even as I have loved you. By this all men will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another." (Jesus as quoted by John 13:34-35) praise be christ consciousness!
Who says they didn't survive? And who says they are pessimists? Or optimists, for that matter? Maybe they're just seekers of truth through divine knowledge (which is more than facts, and more than just faith) Gnosis means knowledge, it's not necessarily limited to a certain group of persons.
I think it rather amusing that you people use parts of The Bible to support your beliefs then throw away other parts. Your writer says Christ was not dead or did not die. Well in fact, He did die, and died for a reason. That reason wasn't so his spirit could be spread over the earth, it was so that we the lost could get into Heaven through His forgivness of our sins. I am so tired of seign people use The Bible in parts. You either use the whole or none, not half.
All of it can be summed up in this... when Jesus said, "The kingdom of God is within." Not in words, not in bible, in your heart and soul, look there, find it and shine your light! anyway, despite our disagreements, let us take this time to honor jesus's teaching of love, and focus on on loving each other! I ask that we bow our heads and focus on this for around seven minutes.
How does a cruel and inhumane death constitute forgiveness of sins? How does that get the heat off of us? Execution by proxy equals mass atonement?
I disagree on that point. Didn't Jesus say somewhere that what he is, we can be and will be? I'm not sure the chapter:verse, cuz I've never thought to memorize that stuff, but I know it's in there. That and the "the kingdom of God is within" seems to say that Jesus was a Buddha-like figure, an enlightened being trying to show us how to become enlightened too; that is to say, how to find God. By the way, although the theory of Jesus going to India isn't all that strong, there's nothing that makes it impossible. Or, conversely, that Eastern mystics were in the middle east. During the Roman Empire, the Great Silk Road ran from China through India and ended in the area of Israel. There was much movement of goods, people, and ideas all along that road.
Well, DUH! What, didn't you see The Passion of Christ? Judging form the reaction to Mel Gibson's gorefest it almost seems like it's going to become the first filmic addition to the Bible. And it seems that it's message is just what you implied with your post: The cruel and inhumane death of Jesus is exactly what allows Christians to be forgiven of their sins. Leave it to Mel to make this film work the way it did. The man made his entire career in film by suffering on camera. It's what he did best. In this film he's merely showing off his expertise in that arena. I liked most of his other films, but I refuse to watch this one.
Quote: It's called sacrafice. Jesus sacraficed himself for us. Is it really that hard to understand? Yes, it makes no sense whatsoever...especially since I found out that a person had to make a sacrifice in order to get into heaven before Christ.....nothing but pure mythology. You worship a god who required a person to kill in order to get to heaven, sounds pretty primitive to me, sounds like the Aztecs.
Yes, I agree very much with you...and also your other post. If anyone does get a chance, do read Paramahansa Yogananda's books...I'm reading Autobiography of a Yogi right now and the way that he and his Guru (his name escapes me right now) talk about Jesus makes so much sense...they actually show the link with Jesus's teachings...its really amazing... When I have more time...I will try and post one part that I found particularly enlightening... Also, whoever said that thing about Jesus being in the East...I am quite convinced that that is true...I have heard that they called Him Issa or St. Issa in India....and that there is proof but the Catholic Church has locked it away to keep control of the people (as they have historically done)...in fact that's one major archaeology project that I want to do when I get older...
To me this seems alot more of what the message of Jesus is really about than anything you learn in churchs and catholic schools.
