Anyone who actually had Christ would understand that judgement is up to God, not man.

The video link wouldn't work for me, but if thats the truth, then he is more pathetic than I thought.....sounds like early speeches by Hitler, with an overeager, self righteous, bloodthirsty crowd.

This is what I posted as my comment to this:

His comment was a joke. It was a poor joke and in bad taste, but still a joke. Are all of you blind to that? Or are you just so ancious to make the world accept your perversions?

I persoanly do not think he was in the right to make such a joking comment. I am a Christian. I disagree with homosexuality. However, don't let his comment reflect on the Christian community. If that were the case then because we see one white person living in a trailor, all white people must live in a trailor. If one black man robs a liquor store, then all black men do it. See where this is going. Have the mentality and inteligence to not associate one mans mistake with the rest of the Christians. Good day to you all.

You see these propaganda reports now and then. An lunatic extremist or a very bad joke taken out of context is attributed the title of 'Christian Leader' or 'Conservative Leader...'.

Im not specifically refering to this post.. but as noted by Bandit, its a bit of a scheme to falsely represent 'Christians'.

Its immature regardless of who it comes from too.
I remember years ago some radical homosexual activist making vindictive 'joking' comments about trying to get the age of consent lowered to 14 so adult men could legally have gay sex with boys.

The rest of the mainstream 'Gay Activists' were horrified but many media outlets refered to the 'joker' as "An Outspoken Gay Rights Leader".

We all have to be more aware of these little games people play.

A joke? He sounded completely serious to me. Sure this guy might not represent all christians but quite a few. The ones that Dubya is banking on helping him win the election. I personally don't think any true Christian would vote for Bush.

    First off.

    This is Jimmy Swaggart!
Jimmy Swaggart ..lol.. is a completely wacky televangelist, who, the younger people in these forums wont remember, but was not once, but twice caught doing fun things with prostitutes and consequently lost all credibility.

Yes, he is joking. its not particularly funny and he blew the follow-through but its definately a 'Southern Baptist' brand of humour.

Its meant to be 'Self Effacing' and the 'comedy principle' is one of exaggeration.

He starts the 'bit' by trying to explain or fathom how politicians are 'dancing around' this issue... (he is looking for the word..) of 'men marrying men'.

[Audience groans but chuckles a bit too]

Swaggart pauses and then says with exaggerated 'comedic' face:
"...Ive never seen a man I want to marry.." ..
[Swaggart looks at a few men in the audience with more 'comedy' face]

Leaning forward with a 'big silly' look on his face he says:

"and if one every looked at me .."
    [here comes the 'punchline']

*"I would kill him and tell God he died!?"

    [audience laughter and knee slapping]

*The 'Comedy Inside Reference' here is to Cain and Able.
God asks Cain what happened to Abel and Cain 'Plays Dumb'.

Non-Christians might not 'get' the reference in Swaggarts 'hilarious' attempt to make his point by comparing himself as impatient as Cain.

So, its hardly a brillliant 'Improv' but clearly the intention is to communicate his dissatisfaction by way of self-effacing/ exaggeration humour.

Keep in mind Swaggart is a right-raving loony and has a congregation of about 50 people.
He is also in no danger of being hit on by gays.

Lots of ass-covering going on in here.

    Lots of distancing.

Don't know if I buy it though.

I also couldn't download the video link, either. Regardless, assuming that this is the case, it is a blatent example of hypocricy as well! Talk about someone using the Lord's name in vain!

While I'm at it, when Swaggert 'fell' back in 1988, I was not only appalled by his hypocricy, but also the fact that he chose to engage in sex with a hooker who was likely at the bottom of the economic food-chain and in dire straights. This is the type of woman that someone like him should've had the means to offer some sort of assistance to!

We certainly wouldnt want you to 'Buy' anything you dont want to, but Im curious where you see 'ass-covering'?

Lots of distancing is made easy by Jimmy Swaggart who is about as far into 'Wacko-land' as one can go.
