I had a VHS rewinder that would rewind at speeds 4x faster than a VCR.

I remember when DVDs came out for the first time and they were marketed so heavily about how you didn't need to rewind them. I remember thinking "so what" I didn't care because my VHS rewinder did an efficient job just fine and I felt that rewinding didn't take much time at all.

Now when I watch a tape on the VCR, I get very frustrated about the long waiting period for rewinding.

Advances in technology have made us impatient.

    Yes they have.

Especially if we're fueled by coffee.

haha, I waited the WHOLE thread to hear someone finally point that out. You have to wash the dishes before you can even use the dishwasher ANYWAY. I use our dishwasher, but mainly just to hold my dishes when I'm done washing them. If I have soap for the dishwasher, I'll let them go for a wash in there as well, just for the hell of it, but really, I wash it all first anyway, there's not much point.

When I was a kid, my brother and I split the chores between us. One would do all the counters, stove top, and microwave in the kitchen while the other was in charge of floors (vacuuming the carpet and then mopping the plastic runners that were placed all over. Then one of us was in charge of straightening up the living room and the other one had the dining room. Then when we got older, mom got bored and started cleaning all those rooms while we were at school, but my brother was still in charge of taking the garbage out and changing the kitty litter (and feeding and watering the cats and dog) and I was in charge of cleaning the bathroom. Since I moved out, my brother has the same chores, but it seems like no one cleans that bathroom anymore. Blech.

LOL thought I was the oldest one in here...

Bringing in coal in a bucket, to put in our coal stove to heat our house.
Removing then filling the kerosene fuel tank for our kitchen range.
Shoveling the walk in the winter to be able to get to the outhouse.
Using a slide rule to do calculations (high school).
Hanging clothes on the clothes line with clothes pins.

Being that it is winter now, the one chore that I remember having to do first thing in the morning was to get out of a warm bed and step on the cold floor and run downstairs. Then I'd get a shovel of coal out of the bin and throw it into the furnace. Then I'd run upstairs as quick as I could and get back into my warm bed. When spring came I had to help put in the garden. Our entire back yard was a vegetable garden- every square inch was used with the exception of the area that was used for our solar powered clothes dryer. The one thing that I miss the most was going out into the garden and picking fresh vegetables for supper.

I guess my VHS machine must have been more advanced than that - the stop-frame wasn't bad, for non-digital. :D But yeah, rewinding required use of embedded mental images to maintain turgidity...

I love how punishments like getting expelled from school don't really matter either because the kids will just be like 'Hell yeah, gonna text on my phone and sit around all day for a few weeks and munch on some food.'
