I cannot think of many child actors that still have carreers as adults. I got to thinking about this after thinking about 'The Good Son'. Macauly Caulkin is a great example. Had quite a few movies as a child and then simply dissapeared. The Olson twins are another example. Sure, they still get deals, but their popularity is nothing like it was as young children. The only people I can remember as a child actor that still has a pretty productive, active carreer is Ben Affleck and Leonardo DiCaprio. I remember Ben Affleck from Voyage of the Mimi and Voyage of the Mimi II. We used to watch those in school. Can you guys think of any others?
No I can't really think of any others, but I wonder if that little Dakota Fanning will continue with her celebrityhood when she's grown. I think she's a really good child actress and she's been in so many movies already for such a young age. But I wonder what will happen when she loses the little girlness and matures more? Will she be yesterday's news or continue a successful career through her adulthood?
if you got this idea from watching the good son, then how come you didnt think of elijah wood, culkin's COSTAR, who is a multimillionaire because of all of the LOTR movies, and hes been in a bunch of others?
Heres how good of an actor Dicaprio is... after seeing Gilbert Grape, I thought the guy really was retarded.
i love that movie cuz thats what i remind girls of everytime they fantasize about dicaprio. its too easy
elijah wood worked out, so did alyssa milano (remember who's the boss?)... very few have success into adulthood...
Two main reasons. First, I forgot Elijah Wood was in 'The Good Son'. Secondly, I hate Elijah Wood. Absolutely cannot stand anything about that obnoxious fuck. He's the sole reason I cannot bring myself to wath the last two installments of Lord of the Ring. I avoid any movie that he plays a big role in. The first reason probably stems from the second reason.
Christina Ricci, Thora Birch and Natalie Portman.. All seem to have gone for sultry to advance thier careers.. I think Thora Birch is the only true talented actress from that short list though.
I would NOT consider ben affleck a child actor, well, not one like most child actors. who here has actually heard of voyage of the mimi?? not I. he wasnt well known, and most people never heard of him until dazed and confused (and he was far from a child actor). when you normally think of child actors, they are the ones who made it big for themselves when they were young (pre-18). alot of them didnt garnish the same success as they did as a child (ie gary coleman, danny bonaduce, maculay culkin, etc)... most of those former child actors you see on those reality tv shows, and in the news once in awhile for getting arrested or whatnot. its a tough life, and hard to get out of that child actor image. Leo dicaprio is the only one I can think of who broke away from that image..... and made some successful films..
other than dakota fanning, I wonder whats going to happen with haley joel osmont?? (you know, the kid from forrest gump and sixth sense)
I didn't realize he was in Forrest Gump. He was in that movie Pay it Forward too...hecka sad movie. (sniff)
Do you think that there is generally a correlation between an actors deliquency and their loss of fame? Many of the names that have been mentioned as having fallen from fame have had much negative publicity due to illegal activity or something else rather disturbing. Also, if that is the case why is it negative publicity has such a bad effect on the carreer of actors growing up, when it obviously doesn't effect people like Sean Penn, Russell Crowe, and countless other celebrities who have caught a multitude of charges?
