    Hello!

I was thinking of moving to somewhere in Europe for a few months (maybe longer) from Canada just to get away from everything. I was wondering if anyone knows of any places that have a good standard of living but have low prices (low living prices, food, liquor etc). I'm looking for somewhere that has lots to do, good night life etc. I've been doing alot of research on Amsterdam which looks like a pretty amazing place. Defintly thinking of moving there although i'm kind of worried about prices and the exchange rate for the Canadian dollor to the Euro. Well any info would be greatly appreciated!

    Thanks

    What is "The Ghetto"?

I'm form Spain, i live in Madrid, the capital, no the cheapest place in the country, but i think Spain is one of the cheapest countries in Europe, i've been lately in some places around Europe, and all of the countries i've been are more expensive than Spain in every subject. I've been in Ireland, England, Finland and they are really expensive. I don't know about Italy, but i think tht Spain and Portugal and maybe Italy and Greece are the cheapest countries.
And about things to do, i assure you that Madrid is amazing, and as far as i know Barcelona es fantastic, more than madrid I guess, and is closer to other places in europe than Madrid.

The northern countries like Norway or Sweden are very expensive, Spain and Greece are cheap, but in comparison to for example England or Germany there's a lower standard of living. Eastern Germany has some very nice places to live, cheap (because lots of people moved to the west when the Berlin wall fell), nice landscape and the normal German living standard and those nice things like a real good healthcare system and so on....

I don't know what you know about our continent, but there are definitely no "Ghettos" in Europe ;)

Italy is expensive when it comes to tourism, but otherwise, prices are lots like Germany (or so was my impression).

However, few years ago, (before Euro was invented) the prices for some things in Italy were REALLY low and we'd all go to Italy to buy stuff (I live quite close to the border).

I guess Czech Republic is quite a cheap country (not the Prague, though).
Living standard can't be too low (I guess, as they joined European Union) there and people are quite nice, it would be good if you could speak their language, though.

I hope you can find this reply helping in some way and good luck,
    Borut

I don't agree very much, i think that the standard of living is now very similar in all the union countries, in spain, it has grown very much since a few years ago, and the prices are not so high, so i think it's a great advantage for people who come here, because you can get whatever you want, but cheaper.

yes, people normally knows little english, but above all, young people manage with english, and i don't think you have a problem. And you'll see if you come that you get the Spanish soon.

Germany is a good place to live, in Berlin they are many young people and it's a living and moving capital, as Paris, but the standart of living is very good over in germany as Floweryan previously stated!
Paris is good culturally wise, but it's quite expensive and it's about the only place in europe that has *ghetthos*..... but not that bad ghetthos!! lol!!
nothing to do with the ghethos in america and the poor countrys!!

Germany is a good place to live therefor!

yeah man, i'd like to move to europe within a matter of 8 months. america is just getting too ugly, and sad to say, i doubt things will last much longer in this country. spain sounds cool, especially barcelona. but yeah, could someone post information about gaining citizenship, and things like that? thanks

    Georgia :)))))))))

I heard that you can buy a house there for just a 5000 euros.
I think it's a joke, but it's really cheap country to live

for difference, Croatia can be very expensive, one beer in a bar can costs more than a 4 euros

spanish laws about citizenship are sadly very close to the American laws, I mean, if you 're a poor inmigrant who comes without papers you will be deported to your country, but if you come with the papers, i don't know the word, in Spanish it's "visado" or you are work allowed (you can ask for it at the spanish embassy or consulate) you won't have any problem to stay here at least for two years i think.

Visado - I believe you're talking about the 'visa'. I'm not sure, though.

Because of the strenth of the pound your $ will be worth half as much in Scotland N.Ireland and England so they are out of the question.
