ive never heard his music but he shoulda have got a life penalty for what he did edit lol i meant to say death penalty
Manson didn't really want peace and love, he just saw that people like hippes were easy to control because they were trusting. His group was a bunch of young kids looking for a purpose in life and he brain washed them. I have never heard his music, but anyone who puts a swastika on his head and has no remorse for killing a bunch of innocent people can stay in prison for all I care.
Person: overrated 'icon'. He didn't do very much. Cult leaders are a dime a dozen, and he only happened to cause a ton of controversy by using his members for revenge - which subsequently and incidentally fell upon a pregnant starlet and Director's wife. Music: from what I heard, okay-ish. No surprise his music career didn't quite take off.
Manson never killed anybody. His followers did. Charlie needs to be in a mental institution and not a prison. He's kept there for the same reason we still have sanctions on Cuba. Bad memories and personal grudges. x
Manson never killed anybody. His followers did. He did tie up two of the victims (Rosemary and Leno Labianca) so that the others could cut them to shreds. It's a fascinating case. I'd be considered a "newbie" at studying it, but I've read probably half a dozen books on the topic, and have read tons of interviews, transcripts, and have listened to a good deal of audio material as well. I also have a copy of the Hendrickson documentary as well (actual interviews with the family). I've only met one person in real life that knew Manson well, most people who knew him won't admit to it. Personally, I think the album on archive.org (see http://www.archive.org/details/CharlesMansonAnthology2 ) is quite good. Manson's own versions of his songs are just okay, though I do like "The Empty House of Tomorrow" and a few others. Usually when I listen to that "album" I jump ahead to about halfway through. Manson's "charisma" is very evident in that recording, nearer the start, where he says "it's not just me..." and does his famous laugh. Clem Grogan did a better job covering Manson's songs, and Brooks Poston and Paul Watkins did some VERY good and powerful music on that album as well. BobbyB has done at least one album while in prison, and what I heard of it was pretty good. Clem is the only one of the convicted Manson Family killers to have been released, and he's doing well. There are photos of him jamming with Bob Weir, for instance, and he's guitarist for a popular west-coast band. He's been out since the late '80s and has been clean since then, it appears. I'm at work and at lunch now, but I'll have more comments later, from home. At some point I will probably write an essay entitled "Were the Manson Family 'hippies'?" and see if Skip has any use for it on this site. A really great source of info is this site: http://truthontatelabianca.com/ Most researchers who study the case tend to have doubts about the "Helter Skelter" motive, though personally I believe it.
^ would he have them if it wasn't such a hyped case? If the case didn't get so much fame to begin with, would it have had a chance to last? And would it have gotten nearly that famous if it didn't have high profile victims?
I have a feeling that he was used by certain forces within the government to tarnish the reputation of the counter-culture that was in full swing at the time. "oh my god!! See!! the hippies ARE violent criminals!! I told you so!!"
i think there is something to be said he still has so many followers ask your self that? Does he still have many supporters? I've encountered few, if any, supporters online. Many argue things that could be (and often are) misconstrued as "support." For instance, how many people know anything about the evidence presented by his defense team? Manson's entire defense consisted of the following words: "The Defense rests." No defense was presented at all. Many people criticize that, but are then portrayed as "loonies" or "supporters" when they're only calling for a fair trial. That said, it's kind of understandable why the defense did that- the defendents were quite proud of their massacres. Gypsy has been on TV specifically advocating Jesus now instead of Manson. As have most of the others still in jail. Read Tex Watson's book sometime for a really good stomach-cleansing puke (though parts of it are pretty insightful). It's free and on his web site. I've wanted to designa teeshirt that shows the Manson Family on the back, happy and innocent and smiling and dressed in hippie clothes) with the message "Comfort The Disturbed." Then on the front, a giant Manson face with the message "And Disturb The Comfortable." But there's so little info to be had about the case, even a lot of the original evidence has been lost or destroyed. So far I don't find any of the conspiracy theories to be very convincing. I'm about to start writing a fictional short story in which the protagonist's mother was part of "the family." If I follow through, I'll post it on the writers' forum here.
I'll say one thing for old Charlie, he preached about the destruction of the environment long before it was cool to be green.
Yeah, and like some comedian once said of killer John Gacy, "at least he was good with his hands, and besides that, he was a homeowner!" I bet there are LOT of people who had been to Spahn "back in the day" (probably even a few readers of this site) but who would be unlikely to admit it (and wouldn't be believed anyway!). Now I mostly sleep out in the graveyard ("oooooh") Seems my mama up and died ("hahaha") Now I just lay round her tombstone, Scratchin' peace symbols in the side. -Charles Manson
On my way home from school people were talking about the US election and they said that if a black man gets elected he will be assinated (suposedly by a white man) and then blacks will start to kill whites .....two words jumped into my head HELTER SKELTER.???????????
lol. . . right . .. and the chosen ones with the marks on their foreheads will hide in the center of the earth until the war is over and rise up and become the rulers of the world!! oh yeah, and this was all written in the book of revelations in the Bible, and the Beatles were the prophets who sent this message to Charlles through their music, so he can start this revolution. he's a wacko!..
The guy who prosecuted the Manson case is now trying to get Bush indicted for murder, as there's really not much difference between the two other than that Manson hasn't committed as many murders (and yes, tying someone up to be killed is still considered participation in a murder). Like Manson, Bush believes in the Bible's final book, and is "doing God's will" in trying to bring on the final war that will obliterate mankind. Oh, and Manson wrote better songs x : )
