i posted this a year ago in the protest forum..it was ignored completekly for 4 months..not 1 reply..which upset me so i posted more on it
and thge only reply i got was some self ritios born again type sayingshes in hell now for doing what she did
i hope ya all have more of an open mind

this is a story about a freind of mine, i was talking to spooky bout her yesterday (because we had a mutual freind, and this woman was a mutual freind of mine and spookies freind)
    anyway

this is about my friend kathy change.
kathy was a true vissionary..a utopian goddess with a purpose..born kathy chang she became kathy change through her vission of transformation.
ever since i met her in the early 80's and many many years before she had been dedicated to getting the message out about her vission on how to transform society into a functioning utopia.
to get her message out..she danced
    [IMG]
here is ksthy at 1 of her 2 favorite spots..and the spot she did her final dance.
she danced onthe art musuam steps, and at the peace sign on the university of pennsylvania campus.
she believed the evolution (not revolution) would begin on the u of p campus
decades she danced there..and even when she wasnt trying to get her message out she never stopped dancing..shed dance while cooking while talking while doing anything she did, she just never stopped.
at 50+ she had a body an 18 year old gymnast would kill for..she wass opure energy, energised by her commitment to her vission.

after i think it wass 18 years she began to feel noone was paying any attention to her message they would pass her by, maybe stop to talk, but the changes she expected just werent happening.
she made the ultimate sacrifice to her vission.
in front of that peace sign pictured above she did her final dance in flames offering her life as a beacon of hope..giving all she had to wake up america in the hopes she could shock the youth into action. show them just how desperate the need was.

this is the only other picture (painting i mean, by joe tiberino of the tiberino musueam)

thats her to the right, with the artist beside her

    http://kathychange.org/
is the website with alot more info
including excerpts from the press release she put out the morning of her passing.
warning, it is powerrful and disturbing.
at least to me having known her so well for so long.

a year or 2 after her dearth, one of the bigger local papers dedicated the entire issue to the question..was kathy change right.
and pretty much all agreed that the changes she called for were really needed..would work..were idealistic ofcourse and would require some changes in how we think and do things but ultimately would be the best for all.

if your able to find a copy of her play she wrote..transformation.. i highly recomend it..its a very enlightening experience.
kathy was a huge influence on me
one of the strongest women i ever knew
i know many of you may disagree with what she did at the end of her life and i truly understand that, but please..try to respect the life she lived and all she gave for you..for the world
and i hope u take her example and try to create possitive changes in your world in some small way.

at the very least..i hope you never forget the name

u can find more on wiki and other sources if u choose to look deeper.

    i know
its not dread related..but dreads are peace related..peace is change related..so in a way, all are one

she truly was 1 in 10 billion thats for sure
ive been blessed with many amazing people in my life, but noone comes close to having the impact she did.
11v years lkater and its still really emotionaly hard to talk about
and its not just because of the tragic loss..but probly more so cause so little haschanged if anything at all..and surely were not even close to acheiving all she hoped to acheive.

she really wass briliant and such a shining beacon..dedicated like no other
well i know for a fact the ppl who knew her well were forever changed by knowing her.

this happens everytime i try posting anything about her..i get too lost in the thoughts and memories..caufght up in the emotions
and i gotta admit theres even some rage there..rage that something like this is so easily ignored by so many..

i hope u read some of her writtings and give em some thoiught at the very least.

im just going to repost this here
this was written october of 96
at just the very beginning of the mess we are in today
this was days before her deasth
we now aree in the ecxact mess she worked so hard to change..
things went down pretty much as she predicted..only perhaps far wordse then she expected.

if the bushes had theyre way we'd be at war with 1/2 the world todsy
we certainly are hated enough forthat to be true.

why did we ever let it get this bad?
dont we realize..we are the power? the government cant exist unless we allow it to exist

can a military machine keep on functioning when the powersourse refuses to function?
walk out on the government and the system and it caanot function without your suport.
thats the basics of the transformation, take bacjk yoir power and put it to good use.
anyway im talking too much..i'll let her speak for herself

The following was written by Kathy Change shortly before her death in October 1996, subsequent to military actions taken against Iraq by the Clinton administration:

At this time U.S.-Iraq tension has apparently eased since Saddam Hussein has stated that he will temporarily stop firing at U. S. planes enforcing the No Fly Zone. Underscore the word temporarily. Hussein said that his ceasefire was in hopes that a diplomatic solution could come about, but attacks on U.S. jets would resume if they continue to patrol Iraqi skies; thus it seems inevitable that sooner or later Hussein will again strike at the hostile intrusion of U.S. planes into his airspace. At that time, the U.S. will no doubt make its disproportionate attack on Iraq which it promised before Saddam Hussein's conciliatory announcement. They are taking a break here but neither party is backing down. War against Iraq is imminent. The U.S. government is eagerly waiting for Saddam Hussein to give it an excuse to resume its attacks.

The military strikes, threats and buildup in the Persian Gulf this September constituted a crisis of alarming proportions. As the media newscasters gloated that Saddam Hussein had been put back in his box, and the imperturbable apathy of the general public continued unruffled, the Clinton administration displayed its willingness to do a war dance on the shaky shelf that hangs over the terrible abyss of nuclear holocaust.

The No Fly Zones are completely unreasonable. Iraq has a right to fly its airplanes within its own borders. That American airplanes are flying over Iraq in direct provocation is the most shockingly senseless behavior-in keeping with [the US. government's] tradition of military aggression and imperialism. If we start bombing Iraq, again, Saddam Hussein could feel that retaliation would be justifiable. Not just retaliation against the U.S. military in the Persian gulf, but retaliation against the American homeland... [yes, she really used the term "homeland" - ed.]

Government spokesmen bluntly state that their intent is to safeguard America's supply of cheap Arab oil. This is completely preposterous. We do not need that oil. We are supposed to be cutting down on our gasoline usage to reduce our carbon dioxide emissions and slow down global warming. The U.S. is a swaggering bankrupt bully trying to compensate for its insolvency with an extra measure of aggressive military display. The U.S. government is parading for TV cameras its most deluxe military hardware, which cost billions of taxpayers' dollars, while public education is in a disgraceful state and people are denied guarantees of health care and human services...

The people should hate to see all this fabulously expensive stuff trotted out to intimidate the petty dictator of a small, already beaten up and crippled nation. This oversized military buildup and the attacks against Iraq are only enhancing Saddam Hussein's prestige in the Arab world, where the U. S. is the Great Satan. Satan's enemy must be a hero is the obvious logic. What glory or honor can there possibly be in this outrageously uneven contest, which is like a mighty lion displaying his most threatening gestures against a wounded terrier? The American people should be boiling mad. But instead the prevailing attitude, amplified by the media, is fat-headed, oblivious arrogance. Conscientious people are cowed into silence.

Clinton seems to think that since all the targets of his missile attacks in the first week of September were military targets, those strikes were ok. Wait a minute. How would the Pentagon feel if American bases on the U. S. mainland had been attacked by missiles of a hostile country? The Pentagon would probably act like it had just been shot in the testicles. Can there be any doubt its response would be war? Military attacks on any target, military or civilian, should not be undertaken lightly. Indeed they should not be undertaken at all...

The average person is essentially well-intentioned, and to such a person it may be inconceivable that his government is motivated by pure evil. But looking at the whole picture, an impartial person must finally conclude that the true objective of the U.S. government is to destroy America and the world.

The U.S. government's policies of the past half century prove that it is malevolent. The U.S. introduced nuclear weapons to the world, refused to join international treaties to ban nuclear weapons, and unilaterally started the nuclear arms race. The wars in Korea and Vietnam were unjustifiable meddling in the internal affairs of those nations. President Bush [the I st one -- ed. j was looking for a pretext for war against Iraq because he viewed Iraq as a threat to U.S. hegemony in the Middle East. A representative of the U.S. Department of State led Hussein to believe that the U.S. would take no action against the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait.-George Bush set Saddam Hussein up and then pounced on him. The Iraqi invasion of Kuwait could have and should have been resolved diplomatically.

Thanks to its unjustifiable wars, the U.S. has many enemies against whom the Pentagon has been planning its final war in its top-secret black budget doomsday projects. The horrible machinations being seriously plotted out by the Pentagon surpass even Hollywood's wildest imaginings.

Because we are dependent on the U.S. government to regulate our society, give us our checks and maintain the buying power of our dollars, we want to think of Uncle Sam as our powerful benevolent family member. But now we must recognize Uncle Sam as the demon-possessed dangerous criminal that he is, before he gets us into big trouble and causes us the most horrendous harm.

Based on what you have posted, SE, her views are very similar to my own.

The people ask where they're tax dollars went to, very soon they will show you on the day of the blast. The masses respond by just watching.

    yea exactly
    ya know
    ive always been owed taxes
but have never filed taxes even though id get a refund every time.
just on the principle of it..i dont like where my taxes are being spent so i will have no part in it.
isnt it something like 50% goes to militsary funding?
the schools suck the healthcare sucks social welfare sucks the quality of life sucks the governments currupt most ppl are suffering while a few thrive on the miserty of the rest
    the environments going to hell
but we got the most impressive military huray for us

man the whole fucking worlds economy would skyrocket if they just all gave up theyre militaries.
sure some would be hesitant..but if 3/4 of the world had a massibe ecinomic boom while u stayed in poverty with a militarty
wouldnt the struggle for dominance then be transfornmed into an economic one instread of violent confrontations?
if only 1 country stepped up to the plate and suddenly had twice the economic power it previosly had, the rest wouldtake notice and follow along.

is it any wonder things have gone to hell when 1/2 of all our money goes to fund something less then 1/3 suports.

i dont care how much they wanna pay me to stimulate me into suporting this crap..im not buying into it
untill theres a law that alows u to specify exactly how u want your taxes spent then i dont concider it taxation with representation.
    i concider it stealling..
stealling then using it to fund actions that endanger us.

ah well its almost 5 am i should just sleep..lol

well..im glad that her final desperate action at least got ya all thinking lil bit about things that need to change.

R.I.P kathy..you will always be missed and remembered.

did her final dance in flames
    went out like a beacon

irtzs called self imholiation i think
much like the budhist monks did during vietnam

except she wasnt in deep meditation like them..they had no reaction to the agony at all..they sat perfectly still perfectly serene till the flames killed them and they toppled over..
she was dancingtill the end, still trying to sing out her message, but from what i hear it was more just shreiks of agony
but still..she danced till she couldnt dance no more

i actualy hadnt heard the news till maybe a couple months after..or at least several weeks
when i heard what happened i was shocked ofcourse.
but the more we (several of her freinds and i) talked about it and all we realized even thoigh it was a horrible tragidy..it probly was the way it had to be
she lived as a guiding light and died as a blazing torch
a vety strong reminder to all

sanyone who visitted philadelphia in the 80s to 96 would most likely remember her..her wild costumes her dancing singing out her message was impossible to miss
she really was a huge part of the feel of the whole city while she was here.
i doubt u could find anyone who was here then who didnt know who she was (maybe not by name, or even her message, but ya menhtion the wild dancing asian chick ij thye crazy costumes and everyone knew who u meant)

things just have never been the same since.

OOOOO we have one of those in downtown Roanoke. A crazy homeless black dude that always wears a tux and mumbles under his breath about government conspiracies. A visionary ...nope. A poor sad guy whose government has obviously failed him and not gotten him the mental health that he so obviously needs. The shop owners downtown are even trying to get him "banned" from the area because he is "bad for business". I shared a sub with him once a few years ago. I didn't understand shit he was talking about, but seemed he was happy to have someone just listen. He is still around, collecting bottle caps and writing down everyone's licence plates numbers. I get so pissed off how people worry so much about what is going on in places they will never even visit, and refuse to help their own.

Fact is SE, we as the united states are terribly selfish people. Then to sit and make ones self feel better sending "what you spend on a cup of coffee" over seas while stepping over the starving and homeless here makes no freaking sense to me. Just the way I see it. The entire thing makes me sick to my stomach. Giving help to the ones who dont need it ( now Im talking about the folks pulling up the welfare office is their cadillac suv's and their 100 dollar sneakers, who could be working, ain't nothing wrong with their damn asses, I see half of them in the clubs dancing their asses off) and ignoring the ones who really do. Why does this get ignored????? That's what I want to know! I know I as a tax payer am quite sick of struggling so the ones who dont really need help can live better than I am. I think welfare reform is much needed!!!!!!!!!!!!! Right here...and right now!!!!

I just read the website on her. It said she doused herself in gasolene and set herself ablaze. If this was the case she'd have gone up like a tinder box. Onlookers would have to move pretty quickly to make a difference to her without suffering severe burns themselves. That takes a pretty brave individual. Shock also has a way of paralysing people, and in a situation where every second counts it can make all the difference.

A death like hers is certainly something I never want to witness.

I wonder what makes someone say "no one will listen to me so Im gonna just set myself on fire".
Do people even really think of the message she was attempting to make or will she just be known for her end? This is just way too much for my poor head!!!! Poor woman!!!

from reading the website it seems that there are people thinking about what she was trying to say and that are keen to at least have an open discussion about it.

What I can't understand is how anyone can truly believe they can singlehandly start a global revolution - or, perhaps more importantly, why they have the right to. Why did she feel her views were any more valid than any other individual alive on Earth today? There is only one way to change the world, and that is to change yourself; change yourself and then lead by example. Your own self is also the only being you have any juristiction over and any right to change. A utopian paradise on earth won't be built over night. It'll be a slow process built person by person, with each individual undergoing their own "transformation" when they are ready. For some, the time for this is now. For many, it may yet be some time off. Force your change on them and force the process as a whole and it will quickly come unhinged.

I'm sure some good will come of this poor womans tragic demise. Those that are inspired by her vision will hopefully live by the values she aspired to and go on to inspire others, and so on and so forth. One. Person. At. A. Time.
