I have wondered for a very long time now if I had ADD. I am now 20, and I recently went to a psychologist and was tested positive for having ADD. I have taken Adderall before, where I got from a friend who has a prescription for it. It really helped me focus, get my homework done, and gave me energy which I always seem to be lacking. I am currently prescribed 50mg a day of Zoloft for anxiety, and I have heard that Doctors are more reluctant to give a prescription to someone who has anxiety because they are more likely to develop an addiction to amphetamines. Not to mention the fact that I am 20, and I know that ADD develops when you are younger and some may think I'm just a kid looking to score drugs. But, I have no history of abusing drugs. Any thoughts as to what you think my chances of getting a prescription for Adderall are? Any ideas as to what I should say to the doctor? I know not to mention Adderall directly, but is their anything particular I should mention? It is much appreciated, Thank you!

do u have anxiety or ADD, or both?

i doubt you will get a script for amphetamines added to your Zoloft...

I'm not sure yet, I wanted to know what do you think the chances of her letting me try Adderall are. A few months ago I mentioned to her I think I may have ADD and she gave me a reference to a psychologist who does testing for ADD. I went to him, did the tests, and his results concluded that I do in fact have ADD. I have an appointment set up with her to go over the psychologists conclusion, where the psychologist will fax the test results to her.

If you really do have ADD, I dont see why your doctor wouldnt prescribe you some sort of amphetamine (adderall, Vyvanse) UNLESS the interaction between these types of drugs plus your dose of Zoloft is in any way harmful or something.

However, if you're just looking to score a script for adderall then well....GTFO.

My old roommate in college was trying to do the same thing, was on Zoloft, was diagnosed with ADD, tried to get Adderall.. they ended up giving him Welbutrin because it had qualities of Zoloft but also helped with ADD.

If you are diagnosed ADD, try a psychiatrist for Adderall, but since you have a past on Zoloft they might not be so quick to switch you, especially since there is a weening period to get off Zoloft as it's an SSRI.

    Good luck

A have a lot of friends in their 20's who have a prescription. Apparently its very easy... but in South Florida it's super easy to get a prescription of anything really.

Depends who you see. My new doctor was reluctant, but a little "hey man, I know this stuff helps me, I've used at least 3 other stimulants including this one before!" and he gave in. Oddly, he really really wanted to give me extended release, but I don;t always need to be speeding all day. And I need to eat at night :s

If you havn't tried non-stims yet it might be hard. Non-stims didnt help me as a kid, but it was more for the H in adhd back then, now its more for the add.

I havent tried any non-stims, but I'm hoping she will give me adderall at first. I can easily see her wanted me to start out on a non-stim first, but even if she does starts me on non-stims, I don't see it being THAT hard to get adderall ^_^

By the way, if you do get adderall be aware that the name brand and the generics are known to all affect people different. I've had generics made by Barr for a while (normally carried by CVS, among others) and they are awesome and last me 6+ hours. Went to walgreens and got some made by corepharma and the effects were SO much different. It was like drinking a MASSIVE red bull; it helped my focus for a couple hours even though I didn't feel quite right. Then I crash balls and will be zoned out / hyperfocused (in a braindead way) / dysphoric. And I can't get euphoria at all with them. I'm told name brand are also a third and totally different effect. Your mileage may vary, and you might even have opposite results.

I asked my doc for a refill after a week because it was so bad! He wouldn't do it, even after I offered to give him the remainder of my current crap adderall. So I'm going to sell what I have left on my campus, it will probably work for other people better than it does for me. And the cash will be nice, at the loss of schoolwork quality.

Got a full bottle of Concerta aka methylphenidate ER, someone has a script for it but only used 1 - 2 months worth a year. Took 54mg total and I'm not totally sure what I think. I got a rush for sure within a half-hour, but have had no benefits to motivation or attention. I think it was just not enough (roughly equivalent to 10mg of adderall being in me at all times for the duration of the extended release, I take 20mg normally.)

Actually felt tired 4 hours after taking the Concerta, which I doubt is sleep related since I slept like a bear yesterday (slept all day, then partied, got drunk, slept again and got up feeling awake and alert as if I didn't have add at all!)

I ended up having a sugarfree amp not too long ago, and it feels much more like being on addy now that I have 180mg of caffeine in me. Point I'm trying to make is that the stimulants can ALL have a very different effect on you, even though they all do the same basic thing. Amphetamines do however affect serotonin where methylphenadates do not, so for people who have motivation as a major issue (like me) I think the amphetamines are the best.

If you are going to abuse this stuff amphetamines are the obvious choice. Just remember, abuse can destroy the therapeutic affects / make you need a high dose for therapeutic effects. Especially for constant/regular abuse. I prefer to have this stuff help me for years to come.

[at this point I forget what the topic of this thread even is.. *looks back to main post*]

ahh so anyways, remember that all the stimulants can seem very different; even the ones that seem like the same thing. And then even for th SAME DAMN DRUG each brand/generic brand can seem like a totally different drug. It's a bitch, but you will find something that works. I wish doctors would prescibe 4 different meds for a month, and let you try one each week to see what works :/ Some doctors are more uptight about letting you try stuff. I think mine sketched balls when I tried to ask for a refill because I got a new generic that sucked dick :p Probably thinks its all in my head or I used my whole bottle in a week ^.^

That was an epic ramble... hope it has some organization / good info...

Lol I read it all man (possibly because I am on Adderall At this very moment :2thumbsup:). But that was some good info. I went to my doctor today and... she said she was going to prescribe me stimulants! :hurray: I didn't know the different generic brands varied greatly in effect, or that the varied at all for that matter. I was also wondering, when she said she was going to prescribe me "stimulants" does this necessarily mean that it will be amphetamines? Or are Rittalin or Strattera also considered stimulants? I know if I were to be prescribed anything other than amphetamines I could just go back to her after a while and just say "hey this stuff isn't doing anything", and I'm sure she would give me amphetamines. But I'm just wondering if when she said "stimulants" this automatically means Adderall?
