Well it makes you trip, and you have visuals. Now how your brain produces em or why it looks like it does, I guess is a complicated answer. Its not really the acid, its you. such help I am.
I read an article on how hallucinations are produced in the brain. I read through the intro and understood most of it, and I stopped reading when the mathematics started making my head hurt. It's excessively complex, the way all the sections of the brain coordinate with the various regions in your eyes...it's ridiculous.
If you can understand the mathematics associated with fractals (past calculus 1), you may be able to grasp the theories about visual distortions from a technical point of view. Like this guy already said though, excessively complex, and FWIU, all theoretical.
