Well, Mr. President Rajoy, you are doing yourself no favours by trying to shut down this vote by any means possible! I.e. guardia civil, policia nacional and policia local. The worldwide coverage by the media is showing a heavy handed and frankly unnecessary show of force against a people trying to do what is their right - cast their vote! I know that the referendum was declared illegal by the Madrid seat of power but as an autonomous region the Catalans believe they have the right to decide on independence. Whatever the political and legal arguments, using force to this extent against people peacefully trying to cast their vote is an affront to the democratic process ans should be seen by the whole world for what it is - borderline fascism!
Hearing reports the police are firing rubber bullets on pro-indy supporters, in an attempt to stop the referendum taking place. Nice to know democracy is alive and well in the EU. Meanwhile, Jeremy Corbyn remains silent on the issue, because he can't be seen to support Catalonian independence while campaigning against Scottish independence.
I really envy the Catalonian people, and their defiance of the Spanish government. I wish the people of Scotland would rise up and just say FUCK YOU to the tory scum in Westminster, We're going independent anyway. But of course it's not that simple here, the orange order would start a riot. It would end up a civil war.
Time to rename the EU, The Union of European Socialist Republics Maybe a Chorizo and Croissant instead of hammer and sickle as the logo
Absolutely right re the orange order. Even though they don't march and the like the way they used to, they are unfortunately still a force to be reckoned with. Queen and country and all that. I lived in Spain for a lot of years and France for some. I was a total part of the community with voting rights etc. Neither country is slow to take to the streets to show their disaproval of government actions or intentions.
I grew up in a very prodestant little town in Scotland, if you were a Celtic supporter you were considered a lower class. Plenty of right heid the ba's roon here I can tell you. I often joke when people ask me which part of Scotland I'm from, and I say the hillbilly south. I didn't realise though until recently how close to the truth that is, as it was pointed out by someone during the tory-DUP negotiations that the term "hillbilly" that's used to refer to stereotypical Americans of that genus type actually originates from the white, British, prodestant settlers who went there, billy being a reference to William of Orange. So basically, my/our(?) ancestors were the original hillbillies, a fact that I both like and dislike in equal proportions. I've got lots of relative and distant relatives who've married in to the family who live over in the US, they all drink in the local Rangers supporter club bar over there, and I can quite honestly say that some of them are complete and utter arseholes.
We were driving through a village close to where we live in Fife yesterday and to my utmost fucking horror a massive Union Jack?red hand of ulster flag was on clear display on a flag pole in a garden. I said to my partner "did you fucking see that?" ********* hus always been a right blue nose toun was his response. Sectarianism is not going to go away! how well are the Bhoys doing by the way? Wednesday - a fucking triumph or what? Anyway back to Catalonia - rubber bullets and batons?
http://www.theguardian.com/world/live/2017/oct/01/catalan-independence-referendum-spain-catalonia-vote-live "Talkin 'bout a revolution"? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BGLGzRXY5Bw
Spanish government wants this image removed from the internet. Good luck with that. The actions of Spain today are also grounds for instant suspension from the EU.
I saw a disturbing video of Spanish police clubbing firefighters who were protecting Catalonian people at the voting stations
EU Commission takes the side of Spain and declares that the referendum was illegal. How can a vote be illegal in a so called democracy? If the people want to express their will then it's their fucking right. If they can't then it's not a democracy. I wonder what all the Scottish Independence supporters who think the sun shines out of the EU Commission's arseholes think of that now! http://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/europe/catalan-independence-referendum-not-legal-spanish-constitution-european-commission-juncker-spain-law-a7978386.html
Seriously, WTF? Why bother interfering with the vote at all? Have those vids, images flashed around the world Who in the Spanish government thought this would be a good idea? Cat-exit, then Spexit, then hopefully Frexit, followed by Germexit All hands abandon ship, the SS European Union is sinking
Like most governments in the EU, they are not there to represent the people. They are puppets of the NWO.
