You know you must never hit a cat. It makes them neurotic for the rest of their lives. Don't shake your finger at them, because it's the same thing. But a doctor said a little while ago, you can raise your voice. With anger. Or make a loud noise.
Also I just found out recently, cats don't like it when you pull their claws off your shirt. It means something to them. When you are petting them or holding them in your arms they sometimes dig there claws into your shirt or blouse. And they won't let go. And if you finally pry their claws loose, they get very upset. Angry even. It means something to them. Anyways, anyone who has a cat knows, when you pet them, or especially hold them in your arms, you should never be wearing your finest clothes. Just your work clothes or pajamas. And you know, when you turn a dog or cat on its back it might get upset. It feels most vulnerable then because its belly is exposed. If they trust you it will be no problem though. The same thing when you hold your hand above their head as you pet them. They might think it's an act of aggression. Especially if they just met you.
Step 1: To establish dominance put on your best face of disapproval. Step 2: Shake your finger and firmly say no. Step 3: Your cat laughs at your futile attempts. Step 4: Come to grips with the fact that You are the pet-in-training.
