i just let my cats out of our spare room yesterday because they were on antibiotics for ring worm.we had to keep them contained for over 2 months to make sure it was gone and wasnt going to spread to us, or around the house. they are all better now, vet said no signs of any form of ringworm. however kaden my newborn was never around them until yesterday. he woke up this morning and his eyelids are pinkish red, and hes sneezing constantly. i called my peds but she said he cant even be on bendryl until hes 6 months old. my daughter sneezes all the time to, ever since she was little and has always been around cats. she almost 2 now so i can at least get her tested this yr, but now i have a huge dilema on my hands. my peds said to keep the hair away from them and the cats, vacuum clean bedding ect. wich im fine with but how do i keep my cats away from him or the hair, i have 3 long haird inside cats and they love us so there always laying up on everything. do i have to get rid of my furbabies??? i dont see how else im going to keep them away from him, and hes been weezing, so if it is the cats i dont want to put him in harm. god i dont want to give up my babies ive had them for yrs.......... please help me if anyone has any advice id greatly appreciate it
The most common culprit is cat dander. I'm allergic to my cat, so I give him a bath every few weeks to cut down on his dander. It REALLY makes a difference. Brushign the cats everyday will also help, as well as getting a HEPA filter. Good luck, I would hate for you to have to give up your kitties.
Yeah, there are other options, it's worth at least trying to keep the cats bathed/brushed, the house vacuumed well, and there's anti-allergy treatments too although I don't know what age they'll have to be. Sometimes allergies get worse with more exposure, but sometimes it'll get less once his immune system gets a chance to get used to it. Taking the source of an allergy away immediately isn't necessary unless it's very severe, and also isn't always good... research suggest allergies occur more often and are more severe because people live in too clean an environment nowadays, so it's quite possible that if you take the cats away from them and all, it may cause more problems later on.
THANKS FOR THE INFO I JUST BATHED THEM AND WOW THE LITTLEST ONE CRIED SO LOUD! THE OTHER CAT WAS TRYING TO GET IN TO SAVE HER AND MY DAUGHTER STARTED CRYING TOO. MY OTHER 2 WICH ARE AT LEAST 15 POUNDS EACH TOOK IT VERY WELL AND HARDLY EVEN MOVED, WICH IS GOOD BECAUSE THEIR THE LONGER HAIRED ONES AND HERS IS ALOT SHORTER SO I CAN DO HER LESS. MYRANYA YEP I WILL LOOK INTO ALLERGY TREATMENTS, AND CLEANING THE HOUSE AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE. I COULD SEE THAT IF HE WASNT AROUND THEM, HIS SYSTEM WOULDNT BE USED TO THEM AND WE SHOULD DEF WAIT IT OUT AS LONG AS POSSIBLE, ALSO GOING TO HAVE HIM SEEN SOON, MY FRIEND SAID HIS WEEZING MIGHT BE FROM HIS ESOPHAGIS(SP?), AND TO HAVE IT LOOKED AT. HER SON HAD THE SAME THING AND HIS WAS VERY NARROW CAUSING HIM TO HAVE A HARD TIME BREATHING. THANKS BOTH OF YOU FOR YOUR ADVICE I REALLY APPRECIATE IT!! I WILL TRY ANYTHING TO KEEP MY FURBABIES!THEY ARE LIKE MY KIDS AND I DONT KNOW HOW I WOULD LIVE HAPPY WITHOUT THEM.
