A good thing. It must have pissed off a lot off journalists that the millenium dome was not picked. The story of the year vanished in a mere hour.
Do you know how many other countries have casinos [apart from the US] on the scale [or lack of] we will have them ? If we ended up like Las Vegas you would have a point. We will not.
bad thing...how can making gambling more accessible possibly be a development for an already screwed society
i think it is bad ... will just lead to more poverty and heartache as people gamble away their savings. i think it's bad enough so many people play the lotto. :/
Good thing: More income for the cities. If people can't pull themselves away from the table, then how is it the casino's fault? The house always wins, but it's only due to the fault of the players. If some stupid twat gambles his life savings away in a casino, that's his problem and punishment for being a fool.
Greetings. I saw the news last night that Manchester was the winner of the super casino. A Las Vegas in Manchester. Unfortunately I don't support mega casinos. It brings crime and corruption and basically creates more and more gambling addicts.I have seen Vegas myths and some may ask what a myth is,. A myth is something that started out as a true story but became larger than life. Thats my interpretation. Anyway, the casino's hire men to try and keep you playing. Casino is yet another devil's game. it is not something that the whole family can do and is strictly for the rich and famous.Manchester already has a higher unemployment rate. The majority of Manchester citizens will miss out as they simply dont have endless cash. On the other hand, thousands of jobs will be created, thus ending a higher unemployment ratio. I am glad that the Greenwich Peninsula didn't win. It would have spoiled it for good. We in Lewisham already have 24 hour slot machine amusements. Why simply follow America?> Don't we have any originality in the UK?
Casino is gambling and there is already millions in debt due to consuming goods under credit card. Now casino's will simply make the UK spendaholics. Soon Britain will be in so much debt that it will have to declare bankruptcy. I second that it is a bad thing. In six months time after Las Vegas hits Manchester, look out for gangs and crimes. People with lots of I.O.U getting their legs broke for every penny they owe. I foretell a disaster.
I'm pretty ambivalent. On the one hand, it's the cheap, tacky side of capitalism, spreading hope of wealth when the house always wins and sucking in a few gambling addicts in the process. On the other, it does create jobs and investment and, to be honest, there are far uglier faces of capitalism out there than the relatively innocuous casino....
same here ........positives are jobs" hopefully investments into the community negatives more people gambling their lives away and going into debt "more muggers "
Casino is basically going to be out of reach for many. How many on this forum have lots of cash to spash out on a casino ? The answer would be not many. Casino offers false dreams of riches. As with the Las Vegas casino's, our British counterpart will simply reflect what happens in the US. Broken legs by the big boy loan sharks. The gun crime and within twelve years, the Las Manchester will sprawl outwards and there will be mega hotels and private airports. It will literally turn into a twin. Infact, Manchester could say they are twinned as they will have a Las Vegas. Trust me, Manchester will become even worse with crimes and gambling addicts.
