Instead, all video poker and slot machines print out a receipt of your total winnings that you take over to a cashier. This kinda sucks. The thrill of hearing the metallic clanging of every single coin dropping into the tray has been replaced by a generic printing sound.

Gambling will never be the same.

Slot machines seem kind of depressing to me anyways. The only time I was in a casino there were a bunch of people at the slot machines guarding multiple ones who had clearly been there all day.

they don't take coins either, you have to get a "players card" that has a mag strip, that you put in the machine and you can only bet how much you put on it. then take it to another machine, if you win anything, and THAT one will print you a check! i can remember when one arm bandits were a good way to get rid of excess coinage when you're pockets started getting to heavy. now all you can do is give it to someone who wants to buy a beer.

gamboling machines do have a sound chip though, that makes an imitation of the sound of coins falling. i'm pretty sure this is a comment on something.

you know what's really thrilling? giving my money to someone who actually gives me something in return for it.

I've been in a casino once in my life; it was one of the saddest and most pathological places I have ever placed my body within. I will never step foot in one again if I can help it. The "regulars" need desperate help, not alcohol and crippling debt, provided with a smile, with pamphlets half-heartedly distributed about "know your limits".

This is pretty much exactly how I felt the only time I went into a casino. Never again. I just don't get the draw of gambling either.

true, but i could say exactly the same thing about bars, gin mills, taverns, whatever you want to call boozoriums too. at least the big casinos, you don't have to go anywhere near the gamboling macines or tables, at least where i live, they're also very nice and reasonably priced hotels, and best of all, most of them have really good buffettes, and multiple other resteraunts. something you won't find in booze joints. but i will agree that gamboling itself is totally retarded.

This is why I prefer playing Texas Hold'em at poker tables in casinos more than machines. There's actually strategy involved. Whereas video poker and slot machines are based entirely on chance. The only times I've ever left a casino richer was after playing a good game of Texas Hold'em, with the exception of a successful game of video poker. Few people realize that those video poker machines distribute your poker hand in favor of the casino, not based on a real deck of cards. It decided when you win and lose.

The best casino story was when I was 8 years old with my aunt in Nevada, she walked up to a machine to teach me a lesson about what happens to your money when you put it in a machine. She said "Watch this, these machines look fancy, but they steal all your money." She put in a dollar and won the $100 jackpot. What a great life lesson to teach a kid, right?

There are still some casinos that do. I prefer the tickets, so my hands don't get all black and icky from the coins.

What I find to be more disturbing is how casinos are replacing many dealers with audio versions.

I consider gambling to be the polar opposite of being charitable.

they don't accept your loose change anymore either. its all on a magstrip card. but the ones where i've been, in cali and northern nevada, instead of a printed strip to a human cahseer, you take your card, after you've one something to a cashout machine that will read how much you've won. oh wait, its been too long, i'm not sure i remember what happens next, you might be right about that printout thing. i just remember there was a kind of cash out machine and a cash in machine where you could add value to your card. anyway i sort of gave up seeing much point in the whole thing. back in the 70s, oh never mind, that was how long ago? but i remember, nickles, dimes even pennys in a few places, and quarters, and if you were a big spender there were dollar tokens and five dollar tokens the machines would take, and in reno even some of the regular stores would take them like cash, but you could get rid of all your extra loose change like that, and occasionally you might even come out a couple of bux ahead. but now its just those stupid cards, so as you might have guessed, i don't even bother. haven't for the almost ten years i've been living in reno now. don't remember how long it was before that.
