Betty Boop is from the 30’s, I believe. Though, there were a few specials in the 80s.

I dunno. I just don't find her funny, or cute or what the real appeal is or was, or anything she's meant to represent?

Betty Boop was a 1930's flapper.
She was Bimbo the dog's girlfriend. (She started off as a poodle).

She was a sex symbol and was aimed at adult audiences.
    Koko the clown saves her.

These early cartoon came from the Fleischer studios and were ahead of time with spectroscoping and patented stereo cameras.
Look at the animation in this segment made in the 20's. Fantastic.

By the way Popeye first appeared as a cartoon character in a Betty Bop cartoon.

She sort of stood for both the depression and the jazz movement...all rolled into one sexy little package.

This is one of Betty's sexier episodes, before the 1934 censorship laws went into effect. She was such a total tease.

    And after:

Censorship sucked as much then as it does now!

Banning a cartoon for drug use because of nitrous oxide you get at a dentist! Ridiculous! And besides, it was the only part of going to the dentist I ever liked!

I think Max and Dave Fleischer were on drugs when they made these cartoons!

Could be. They also came up with a one-eyed sailor who gains super powers by eating spinach!
