My friend told me that if you get our basic cartilage pierced with a gun and not a needle that the gun will crack your cartilage all the way down and it won’t heal. I was just wondering if this is true because I got my cartilage pierced at claries with a gun and it has been about 6 months and my whole back of my ear is still sore. Hoping someone could enlighten me more on this issue, thanks for your help.

    ONE LOVE ~B

Guns CAN crack cartilage, it doesnt happen every time though, but 6 months is a long time, I'd go to a real piercer and get them to have a look.

Never, ever, ever get anything pierced with a gun; they are inaccurate, unhygienic and far too blunt to make a good piercing.

Ear piercing guns cannot be autoclaved, therefore, when they pierce at such a speed, the fine mist of bodily fluids they release could be going anywhere... I am stunned that nobody has yet reported contracting something very nasty from a gun piercing.... I feel it is only a matter of time.

Claire's a re cunts, by the way; I used to work for them, and their whole piercing procedure stinks. They don't have a clue. I used to frequently go against company policy, and tell people the real truth about gun piercings.

No; you were lucky. I have seen many hundreds of fucked up ears, owing to this - bumps that never heal, wonky piercings that flare up constantly.....

I'd remove it and start again when it's all healed up with a needle, to be honest...

I had my lobes done with the gun, and I was lucky that nothing happened to it. All my cartilages are done with the needle.

Thank you everyone for all your help and info. I think I’m going to listen to ZeroGrrl and take out my piercing and start over.

ZeroGrrl - do you know if the thing about cracking the cartilage is true or not? how long do cartilage piercings take until they are not sore anymore?

thanks again for all your help.

    PEACE ~Brenda

The soreness will vary from a week to a few months. It depends on how you heal as well as everything you do to your body. What you eat, how you clean it, if shampoo gets in it, if you sleep on it. If it get's touched, it will stay irritated as long as it's continued to get abused. Best thing, fuckin train yourself to stop letting it come in contact with ANYTHING. Including your hair.
Also, as far as the cracking of the cartilage, yes that is very true and happens very frequently. Check these links or do a google search:

What Dixie Pixy said about the soreness. Sopme of mine have taken almost a year to heal completely.

The cracking thing is true, yes; Hussy Girl's post a few entires down explains it well: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20061207134646AAZWXWJ

I had two lobe piercings and two cartilage piercings done with a gun before I knew better. Both lobe piercings and the first cartilage piercing healed fine with no problems whatsoever. The second cartilage piercings, however, still give me trouble and it's been two years. I haven't had an infection in quite a while, but I had them frequently, especially in my right ear. It's not visibly obvious, but there is a much larger amount of scar tissue in my right ear than my left. Part of the healing issues was my fault - I can't wear cartilage piercings at work, so after the first month, I was taking them out and putting them back in every day, which is never a good idea with a healing piercing.

They're healed now, finally, but I have to be careful when I sleep in them. I sleep on my right side a lot and if I wear them more than one or two nights in a row and sleep on that side, my ear will get sore.

I will never again get a piercing with a gun.

    Fun?

Keloids, hypertrophic scars, shattered cartilidge, wonky, badly-placed piercings, total lack of sterility that could lead to Hep C, HIV, any othr blood-borne disorder....

You have an odd concept of 'fun'. Either that, or you didn't realise any of the above.

Gun peircings are better if you dont want any guage bigger then the standar of 18 i think it is ? Maybe smaller. On the subject of the gun cracking you cartilage is b.s!! I've had my cartilage periced several times with a gun and that has never happened! Some cartilage peircings take longer to heal becuase of the way you treat them, aka you sleep on it, you play with it alot, move it around to much, touch it, have had other people touch it, ect. my industrail pericing that I've had for 8months now still isnt completly healed becuase I've done stuff like that with it.

Same here, many hundreds of times.

Meow, you can have a piercing at a smaller guage, just ask for a smaller needle.

    Guns are DIRTY AND DANGEROUS.

ok, im really glad you asked this question because i have a rant about it.
NEVER EVER get cartiladge peirced with a gun. if you do you basically push all the excess cartiladge outward to the space around your new peircing and it will take forever to heal and you will be more scarred. if you get it done with a hollow needle, it is like a hole punch and takes out everything that you dont need. all my cartiladge healed in about a month and now they are perfect.
