I recently got a script for 60 350mg Carisoprodol/Soma tablets for anxiety and insomnia, but I'm wondering if there is a heavy risk of dependence. I hate xanax, ativan, and valium- but when I took those (For a year or two?) I never developed a dependence.

So! I'll ask the pro's here, is their a heavy (heavy being comparable to opiate addiction?) risk of dependence with this? Thanks!

Yeah, I tried one last night- verrryy relaxing. I just don't want anything that addictive, this stuff is much better than smoking a bowl before bed- and wayy cheaper.

naw. its has a structure similar to guaifenesin,. named mainly after the Amanita mushroom, and I can say its SOMA pills are very amanita acting with less degree of delirium. while amanitas dont effect me in negative ways dosage isnt easy to measure. Although the Soma pills we're easy to consume and I had eaten some without remembering.. non lethal without alcohol and benzo. :)

Soma can be quite addictive, actually. Although Carisoprodal itself is not a scheduled drug, it is extensively metabolized into the drug Meprobamate, which is similar to the drug Quaalude from back in the 'day.' It acts on the same receptors as the benzodiazepines and barbiturates.

So, be careful with thinking that it is 'safe.' It is at LEAST as addictive as benzodiazepines, but probably more-so, due to its more barbiturate-like pharmacodynamic profile. However, compared to an opioid addiction, it is far less dangerous.

You already said that you took benzos for years and didn't get addicted, so it is likely that you won't get addicted to this either, given its similarities. But, just watch out.

Soma sucks, both recreationally and therapeutically.

I should've added "imo". It has never kept my muscles from aching and it has never gotten me high, even when I ate 12 of them. All it did was give me some crazy body tremors.

I agree that the reason TopNotch didn't catch a buzz off of Somas is due to his massive benzo tolerance. Since Soma, like I described, metabolizes into a compound that acts like a pharmacological cross between benzos and barbs., a cross-tolerance is inevitable.

I wasn't on benzos at the time, which is why I resorted to soma. lol NO muscle relaxers have ever affected me, even when I ate 17 flexerils. lol They just don't work for me.

Flexeril doesn't work on the GABA receptors, or any recreational receptors at all. It is a Norepinephrine Reuptake Inhibitor with Antimuscarinic properties, which basically means it is a Tricyclic Antidepressant that some pharma company wanted to glorify to the status of 'muscle relaxer'.

So if Soma doesn't make you high, Flexeril is guaranteed to not do Jack Shit.

TopNotch- I am still surprised you felt nothing w/o a benzo tolerance. But maybe your system doesn't metabolize Soma itself to the active metabolite very effectively? Have you ever taken barbiturates? Do they seem to affect you like benzos? I am just curious, you don't have to answer.

I would take a soma instead of a benzo any day. Flexeril has no recreational value. I feel like soma has all the positive benzo effects, none of the negative, and a added soma buzz.

Yeah, this soma really dose kind of suck. Tolerance developed way to quickly for me, I think I'll keep smoking bud and just wait for the day that I can get a medicinal card for anxiety. Thanks all!
