I've got to go walk around the back yard and see if I can get Smokey to come to me. Apparently, the husband let her slip out a few days ago and we didn't realize she was missing from the household until he saw her sitting on the a/c unit, twice, last night. She didn't want to come inside because she ran every time we opened the front door. I see alot of cat activity out back so I'm pretty sure that's where she is. I don't know if she will come to me but I'll try.
I didn't see any sign of Smokey but hubby says he saw her on the porch this morning when he fed the outdoor cats. If I'd known that, I wouldn't have walked around three properties yelling for her.
Our neighborhood is full of cat colonies and I started feeding one we named Jessie. Jessie has come home pregnant 3 times, out of those litters, we kept one as an indoor cat- U.G. Puss Pants- the others have gone to no-kill shelters in the area. It's a problem in our town, cats everywhere. I have already taken 5 cats to get fixed and the surgery was done for only $35.00 since the cats are stray but it has really calmed down the cat colony issue. The only issue now is Puss Pants clawing the furniture and rug! oh Puss Pants.....
I've taken at least 25 feral cats to be spayed/neutered. Many of those I've kept as pets. Several of them have wandered away or something has happened to them It's more like $55 and up to get them done around here because they require the rabies vaccination as well.
The worst part of the local cat colony is that it all started with the Amish neighbors, they tend to not take very good care of pets and they let them wander off. Then naturally they come back pregnant and then those kittens run all around the neighborhood and so on and so on. Since the Amish don't believe in getting the cats fixed, I have actually taken their cats to the vet and gotten them fixed without them even knowing! They didn't notice they were gone and they didn't notice the cats had been shaved or had incisions! Believe me, I would take all the cats in if I could but until then, I will keep taking them to the vet to get fixed, what else can you do....
I was walking along behind the Radisson Deauville Hotel, in South Beach (Miami), in January 2000/2001 and noticed a sort of cat shrine and there was food around it and feral cats in the area. It was maintianed by one or more local Latino women. I was nly there for a few days for a conference so didn't find out ore about it
I see alot of businesses that have the cat-feeding area. It's alot easier to feed them someplace away from home, I'm sure. There's none of the overnight and weekend cat drama to deal with.
Just dropped ZaKitteth off for her surgery... She didn't make a sound during her car ride, which I found odd.... She's probably thinking she's been abandoned again.
One of the ferals that we haven't seen in months came and had kittens in the carport. We call her "Almost Collar Kitty".
In Barcelona Spain there is the Jardin de los Gatos. Garden of the Cats... high on a prime real estate hillside just below the Juan Miro museum, the garden has fountains, terraces, grape vines, an arboretum, and center for vet services and feeding station. The cities stray cats, if they find their way here, have a home for life. I have visited several times.
Tommy is in for his neutering. I had scheduled to take Sweetie Pie for spaying but little did I know that she was pregnant. She should be having her litter any day now. That leaves her needing to be spayed and Percy needing to be neutered. All the outdoor, semi-ferals are going to need to be rounded up and taken to the No-Kill Shelters.
