    Genesis 9, 6

If anyone sheds the blood of man,
    by man shall his blood be shed;
for in the image of god
    has man been made

Why do christians not follow this law with religious and godworthy vigour, and instead, mainly oppose capital punishment?

Does god change his mind later in teh bible like he does a few times ive read in Genesis, or do people jsut choose not to follow the word of the lord?

Is it because god then gives the 10 commandments that conflict with his original rule?

jees, god gets confused a lot for an omnipotent and all knowing entity....

Its because Jesus already fulfilled the requirements of this law.

Now Christians live under a New Contract which is better than the Old one.

Understand this principle and you will see those scriptures come alive before your eyes.

I don't appose capitol punishment. I actualy think public hangings should be reinstated to give a better example of what will happen to scum.

actually, the way the US justice system operates, it far more expensive to execute someone than to keep them in jail for a lifetime. The court costs are astronomical for an execution.

Personally, I am one million percent against capital punishment, no matter what the crime. It's a good thing we don't live in china where their policy regarding even non-violent crime is 'kill fewer, kill carefully'

The Chinese government executed four bankers today for fraud charges.

Your right, what was I thinking. People that murder and rape other people shoud be allowed to live. Yeah, it is so much better to lock someone up in a cage and allow them to get even more evil in their lives. Get over yourselves. I am Christian. Besides, when God says that the person that has the job as executioner will not be held responsable for the life of the one being executed, I can only conclude that God agrees with capitol punishment. Then again, God wiped out the entire world of repulsive scum, so I guess you hate Him too.

what the hell are you talking about again? If he's done wiping out the earth of scum, then surely there would be no need for further executions

Your right, of course god would love it if people were being executed in the street...you are a real Chrisitan with love in your heart.

MISTAKES ARE MADE CHRISTIAN, MISTAKES>>>HAVE BEEN MADE

your god is a lie you created to make yourself feel superior....

I never said He was done. Where did you get that from? Also, who said anything about being executed on the street? What is with you and making up these things?

Yeah, mistakes are made. You still have to be responsable for your mistakes.

"No honest officer, I accidentaly jabbed this knife into her belly and cut her from her stomach to her throat."

"It's ok son, go along and learn, we all make mistakes."

    Give me a break.

    Prove it!

Bandit, come on, i'm saying mistakes are made by the government executing the wrong person......I don't have much sympathy for people who murder others...thats supposedly your department, as the Christian,to accept the person who's made a mistake and repented for it..

I'm saying the legal system isn't to be trusted with making these life and death decisions, they have made mistakes..not to mention the fact that the rich get good lawyers and the poor don't...they make mistakes..

The topic at hand is not if any government ever makes mistakes. We are discusing the act of capitol punishment and if it is right or wrong. Please, make an attempt at staying on topic here.

As far as your remark at it being my department to be all forgiving and accepting of others. Well, as A Christian I am to forgive others. As a Christian I am to love the sinner and not the sin. However, I guess I should remind you that I am human. I am not perfect. I will and do stumble in my life.

I do not see the benifit of jailing someone for live versus going to walmart and buying some rope or a bullet and ending it right there. Must be the human side of me.

It strikes me as funny that most who oppose abortion are for the death penalty. Anyway to stay on topic, the death penalty is morally wrong. The average time of execution after convistion is something like 20 years. In twenty years someone can be a completley different person and have genuine remorse yet them being put to death is usually not pardoned for advancement of political careers. Take the Carla Faye Tucker case for instance in Texas. She was completley remorseful and suffered from a mental illness yet George W who was governor at the time wouldn't pardon her sentence because it was in his plans to run for presidency. As humans we are all equal and none of us have the right to decide when what seserves death. People who kill are obviously mentally ill and should be rehabilitated. If we focused on rehibilitation our crime rates would go down and it would be much more cost effective than keeping one in for life or excercising a large number of appeals for capital punishment.

okay sorry one more point. Our system has also put people on death row without testing for dna evidence (even when we had the technology), most of these people don't know their rights and are taken advantage of by the system because they are only allotted overworked and underpaid public defenders. They also happen to be people of color-which makes our system racialy biased.

    facist dictators?
    soldiers?
    suicide bombers?
    the real ira?
    political rebellers?
    saviors?
    executioners?
    police?
    those who comitt manslaughter?

or do you mean it all relates to circumstance of the action itself?

It strikes me funny that most who oppose the death penalty are for abortion. It's ok to murder a baby but not ok to kill a murderer/child molester/etc...For the record, I'm anti-abortion and anti-death penalty.

It strikes me as sad that so many people are 'struck funny' about being opposed to abortion, yet for the death penalty?

What is funny, confusing or unusual about that?

One is an innocent baby (in the minds of the believer)
and another is a guilty adult. (in the minds of the believer)

Further to that - most of these people believe that Capitol Punishment will ultimately save lives.

So there is nothing 'odd' or 'funny' about holding both ideals.

Didn't take long for someone to bring up our wonderful President Bush. Guess she is gonna vote for Kerry. Of course, he won 3 purple hearts.

The deth penalty is moraly wrong to you. Not to me. Then again, if it were up to me, I would just alocate some island and throw all the prisoners on said island. I saw a movie once that supported this idea, saw it a long time ago.

As far as "people who kill are obviously mentaly ill", LOL, I can agree that some may be mentaly ill, but not all. The guy that comes home after a hard days work and finds his wife getting nailed by the pool guy doesn't shoot the pool guy because he is mentaly ill. He does it because he has emotions, and his wife just trampled all over them. What about the guy who wakes up in the middle of the night and hears' something out of place in his house. He doesn't shoot the burglar because he is mentaly ill, he does it to protect his family.

As far as our judicial system being racist. That is just bull. If there happen to be more blacks convicted in a year than whites or hispanics, that doesn't make our judicial sytem racist. It simply means more black peopel screwed up than hispanics or whites. You make this statement and I can only assume you are either A)One of those oppressed people of color that feels white people owe you something or B)One of those uneducated white people that feel you owe black peopel something. Racists...HA. Why is a United Negro College Fund in operation but a United White College Fund isn't allowed? Why is it that minorities are allowed more governmental help than white people? Why is it that now here in texas whites have become the minority and yet are still not eligable for the help minorites got last year? Go bark up another tree. You arguments here are pointless and leading nowhere.

So you don't believe in the concept of "Original Sin"

And Bandit, I don't know where in this vers god is giving man the permission to pass the judgement. Especially when in other (and more well-known) areas of the bible command man not to kill.
