I had a movie flash back yesterday. I opened my door to let my dog out in the yard and all these birds flew into the tree and stared me down. Was like Alfred Hitchcock was visiting!!
I like it. It's July now - when does that tree come into leaf up there in the North? Or is it a dead tree?
Thank you. The tree struggled last year and this year did not bud at all. It is a "city" tree and I am not allowed to replace it. I have to report it as dead and they will eventually plant one to replace it. Kind of sad as I would do so as it may take them a few years to get to it. Silly laws.
Yes and the three others near here in the back park are also dead. Saddens me as they have been growing for about 12 years and now they are all gone. The school was built then and that is when they planted the tress.
There's a disease which kills ash trees called 'ash dieback disease'. I don't know if it's in Canada or the US but it's on the increase in the UK. http://www.dardni.gov.uk/ash-dieback-disease
Emerald Ash Borer kills them here and in Canada... They will go extinct in just a few years. Over 100,000 dead in Ohio alone since 2004.
South Carolina..well that's something to be proud of... Over the weekend, a KKK chapter located in Seneca, South Carolina handed out bags of candy in effort to recruit new members. One woman says she was shocked when she discovered the KKK candy bag on her way to church Sunday morning. In addition to multiple pieces of candy, the bag included literature telling people to "Save our land, join the Klan." The woman, who asked not to be identified, told Fox Carolina that she was in awe when she stumbled upon the bag, and she noticed that the bags were dropped in her neighbors' driveways. While notorious for burning crosses and terrorizing minority groups, one sub-division of the Ku Klux Klan has resorted to a mild recruitment practice that involves giving out candy and leaflets. I can honestly say I've never even considered that the KKK could still be alive in South Carolina. I live maybe 45 minutes from Seneca. Its crazy how different the mindset and economic level (which has a lot to do with the mindset) can be in the cities and the rural parts of SC Justin, how do you like Hilton head? I have family that lives there. I've never particularly cared for it though. There are a lot of regulations which allow for development but keeps the development hidden and out of sight as I'm sure you've noticed. Instead of preserving Hilton Head's natural beauty I think it ends up making things look very dull.
I notice all the birch are dying here too same with pine but the pine are localized type kills in patches not as widespread as the birch birch borer and pine beetles of course
