Originally I thought I was voting NDP, but after the latest display from Layton, I'm not so sure anymore. And to be frank, I don't think he has a real chance. Given that most of Quebec tends to vote conservative, and the BLOC is the only real thing blocking a conservative majority, the opposition with the best chance of standing in their way needs all the support they can get. For that reason, I'm going to vote Liberal. Not neccesarily because I support their platform or ideals, but because voting for anyone else would simply be throwing my vote away. Let's be honest, when was the last time anyone other than the Liberals or the Conservatives were in charge? Ideally I would (and hopefully will some day) vote for the Green party every time. But given the current situation I don't feel like any vote should be wasted on a party that currently has a snowball's chance in hell of getting elected. I'm only voting to try and keep the conservatives from getting re-elected, not for the party who I feel most deserves this role. It's unfortunate, but that's the way they've made it for us.
I don't really know what I want to say about another election. I'm probably going to vote NDP but I'll see when the day comes.
i am waiting to hear the candidates locally and nationally...pretty sure it wont be harper....all the rest still have a chance to get my vote
This election should not be happening. I am rather irritated that money that could have been used more productively instead will pay for another election. There was nothing in the budget that warranted this extreme reaction. I will in this election probably be more inclined to vote for a member based upon my riding rather than party.
My impression is that it had less to do with the budget and more to do with the contempt. It's just that the budget was used as a vehicle to express contempt of the contempt.
That they used a budget that was actually fairly balanced to do so is the problem. It should not have happened and it may very well hurt them in the long run. We did not need the expense of another election.
Technically, we did not need the expense of upgrading the CF-18s. We did not need the expense of a childcare handout that doesn't even work in the first place. People are using their childcare money to buy gifts, get their nails done, etc. What a waste. At least the expense of a democratic election is our rights being exercised.
Heat, you know I like you, but you are 100% wrong on this. This had zero to do with the budget. This government was going to fall on a number of issues, the one they DID fall on, was Contempt of Parliment. They (harpers government) refused to tell us (and the parliment) just how much they were really going to spend on the jet deals. Months of the opposition asking for the information so they could vote on it on a basis of information was denied, in order to hide the true costs (which we still don't know). On top of this, you want to talk about money being wasted? It was the harper government that just spent 2 billion dollars to beat canadian citizens on the streets of toronto... It is also the harper government that is planning on spendin billions more on new prisons to toss people like you, me and quite a few others on this board into prison. The ONLY one who is claiming this had anything to do with the budget is harper, becuase he is trying to downplay the fact that for the first time in the history of our country, a sitting governement was taken down for Contempt of Parliment.
I made the difference now, I voted liberal. And that was to overcome the greater communicative values Ignatieff stands for, but in the long run don't count on that. Harper just enjoys buying things for looking confident about Bay St. Seems to do it too well for the faith in Selfish Canadian Commodities. Doving A failure in the wholistic approach
Here is an excellent article from The Australian that sums up the harper government quite well. http://www.theaustralian.com.au/new...-democracy-erode/story-e6frg6ux-1226030310248
Not meant to be a complaint about the poll, as it does represent those parties that will have any real type of showing, but it doesn't actually include all of the registered federal parties in Canada. Animal Alliance Environment Voters Party of Canada Bloc Québécois Canadian Action Party Christian Heritage Party of Canada Communist Party of Canada Conservative Party of Canada First Peoples National Party of Canada Green Party of Canada Liberal Party of Canada Libertarian Party of Canada Marijuana Party Marxist-Leninist Party of Canada New Democratic Party People's Political Power Party of Canada Pirate Party of Canada Progressive Canadian Party Rhinoceros Party United Party of Canada Western Block Party
In regards to why the governement fell; Note that the Contempt vote was held the day before the budget vote. The budget vote never happened.
Well at least it's not like in Iran where the election never happened. What does the constitution (or BNAA) say?
What does it say about what? http://www.pco-bcp.gc.ca/aia/index.asp?lang=eng&page=canada⊂=constitution&doc=constitution-eng.htm
I think the budget vote would have shown the people that they aren't for it anyway. But nevertheless the banks rule the decisions of need for their wealth. Thereby, the government thus cleans itself of the responsibilities to the banks to pay back the deficit for now. That's why I don't like the conservatives, because they can convince the people of the mandate for the wealth in the deficit as available to the wealth of the financial adjustments to bonding of the greed to ordinary privileged investment. We cannot expect higher interest rates, job creation with competitive worth of applicants, and inflation which justifies only non-growth corporations to be with needed strikes. Inflation is only a fact of regions of the nations now. Speaking of Sheila Copps's famous speech: "we are witnessing the de-industrialization of Canada": we now have the re-industrialization of only certainly public preferred regions. This way the bail out of money is undemocratically held on to by the state. The people only can be deciding that they support the budget with the ideas of trust in foolish ideological ambitions of strangers and distrusted friends (at least when it comes to money).
Yesterday, this article with a top US budget watchdog saying; http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/story/2011/03/29/cv-f35-costs.html Today, Harper comes back and says; http://www.ctv.ca/servlet/ArticleNe...estimates-110330/20110330?s_name=election2011 This is the issue his government was voted out on, because when asked to back these statements up with proof, he and his office refused to, for months. His government has fallen because of it, and he sticks to the line, and feels confident that people will ignore it and vote for him. If he were to get back in with a majority, forget everything you ever thought you knew about this country. Where do you think the extra money to pay for those jets will come from when he has the power to push the sale through as a majority? Community services, health care, the arts, pretty much any type of social spending will disappear in order to pay for the 'cost overruns' that he will cause.
Here's yet another interesting article; http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree/2008/apr/24/thecanadiannixon
Yet another article... http://embassymag.ca/dailyupdate/vi...n_it_comes_to_human_rights_amnesty_03-31-2011 This is the result of harper's policies... Notice that each of these articles has been from a different source... These are things that are recognized everywhere in the world about harper and canada, except for some canadians. Although I have never thought canada was perfect, or even close to it, I did at least have pride that as a country, we stood out as something truly to be proud of. We led the way in a peaceful transfer from crown rule to a democratic like government. I would really hate to see us lead the way from democracy to dictatorship through inaction and in-attention... All of these posts are not to just try to convince those who feel harper has been good for us that he truly isn't, but also to convince those who usually sit back and ignore the issue of politics or refuse to participate for whatever reason, that they should rethink their position. By sitting back and not voting, as a majority of young people and left seem inclined to do, you are handing the country back to someone who will not only destroy everything it was, but to someone who wants to make sure he has enough jail space for you when you do finally wake up and realize there is a problem. Get out and vote this year... Anyone but harper, preferably whomever it is that is best positioned to win in your riding over the conservative. And drag your friend too!
