I can say something about wearing extra clothing. I have known several people who moved here from Florida or California who think it is cold here when the locals are wearing t-shirts. Some of them don't ever feel it is warm. Also many homeless wear all their clothes so they don't lose them.
The more things change, the more they stay the same.... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aIlJ8ZCs4jY"]Tom Lehrer - National Brotherhood Week - YouTube
I remember being in the Middle East back in the 80's everyone liked us, now they hate us, i guess thats progress lol.....I just hope E.T doesnt land, it wont take long for us to piss them off either.
To be fair, I don't think the video advocated you call the police every single time you saw somebody taking pictures or leaving a back-pack behind. Ony if somebody is surreptitiously taking pictures. It's good to inform somebody if a case/bag is left, and nobody picks it up. You don't have to go running around screaming: "Terrorist". You can just say:"Hey, I noticed a bag was left over there". I do understand Americans tend to take things to the extreme, though.
Perhaps I've been talking to them for too long. I have not talked to many British people about subjects that crop up here. I'll try to curtail my generalisations. I just think everything is a little heightened over there. For instance, compare our party conferences and yours. It's all gloss and razmataz In the US. Disaster/Emergency readiness programmes turn into FEMA death camps. Etc. Perhaps it's only a fringe who think this way, and the same kind of people think the same way here. I dunno.
Actually I probably spend time with a more layed-back segment. There are a lot of Americans who freak out easily on shit.... just not the right shit..lol
I hope you see where I'm coming from, atleast. I'm friends with many more relaxed Americans. But prod them about Guns, Freedom, Healthcare or the Constitution. My goodness. The volume is turned upto 11. I try to be fair, I hope. Maybe not all of the time, though.
Oh yeah I totally get ya.. I'm not completely sure how or when people got so frickin' politicized over here... You can blame the media for one I guess. They'll be turning it up to 12 soon, because it doesn't take long for folks to get desensitized and that hurts ratings. lol
To be fair, all those issues are shoved in the average American's face so often by the media and by politicians that they tend to take on a grossly exaggerated importance.
Me neither. I'm not sure if it's just part of the make-up of Americans, and it's always been the case. Or if the media provokes people to be polarised over almost everything. I'd need 3 days sleep and 5 years living there to figure any of this out. I can only judge (or be judgemental) of what I encounter. Wrongly or rightly : /
In a way, yes. People are certainly provoked into having opinions on certain wedge issues that may not be as important as other issues never even brought up by your average politician.
