I wasn't alive then but I can feel how amazing it must have been just from the stories i hear. I feel kind of nostalgic, and i really wish there was a counterculture movement just like it today!! people were free back then, they didnt worry about what others would think if they did this or that, and they were tripping a lot, so their minds were open.. it was so natural ... today everybody seems to just want to turn on their television, or their game console, or cellphone and get lost in it... it sucks. i wish there was something to bring back the 60s...is it ever going to happen again? i know i can't be the only one who feels this way! peace n love!!eace:
god, that would be just awful. and to answer the question, no. at least with current technology, it is physically impossible to "bring back" any past time period. i don't even know how that would work in theory.
the definite answer to that is NO...the 60's..were the 60's:sunny::love:: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mX07ymfoQQI"]the moody blues in your wildest dreams - YouTube
People have not changed one bit. Don't let your mind fool you just because you see all those cellphones, tablets, televisions etc. etc. And what makes you think people in the sixties didn't want to just turn on their tv's? I am sure many people on this forum have at least felt like you in the past (I know I did) but they either found out there is nothing to bring back or they were just wishing they lived back then literally because it was so awesome without any computers at all, much less technology etc. I can actually recognize myself a bit in both
Yeah, I used to spend a lot of time thinking about how awesome it would have been to live in the 60's. Then I realized it was a waste of time. Now I work to make my life happy, in whatever decade I might be living in. There was a lot of bad shit going on then too. There will always be bad shit. Focus on all of the good shit in your life today. Make THIS life worth living.

I read your thread and here is my response (posted it on your thread too): I mainly want the part of the 60s that's like this quote "What I like most about the 60s is that when things got really, really fucked up the youth didnt allow the rich white men that fucked shit up to continue running the show. The youth culture actually reclaimed their country. My generation has the opportunity to do that right now, and we just turn on our ipods and tune it all out instead." I'm not saying I want us to have to face racism or other really bad laws just so we can rebel. I think most of the laws today are bad enough as is and they should be changed, or removed. I still think there's room for a hippie era and lifestyle AGAIN, where a whole bunch of us youth do it again! I don't think it's just to party. It's for freedom. You probably sold out and don't get it anymore. I've turned on, am tunign in & dropping out bit by bit. I wish more were doing that. Because of course I see an ideal and if more people see what I see, I think the world would be a better place.
So what is your ideal? Want to make the world a better place? Lots of people share that ideal and are working on that... I don't think it involves bringing back the sixties. Making assumptions about other people because they don't share your view on today and the sixties is rarely a nice thing by the way Not that I know reverendJC so well but I doubt he 'sold out'
Every decade has its highlights and its problems. I am certain the summer of love was something to remember, but I am also quite certain it came with its downfalls. There is no such thing as a perfect place in the past in which to dwell, because it distracts from the present.
Don't bring back the 60's. Now's the time for another movement. The world today is still a very terrible place and people are just as apathetic as ever. We need to get this generation to wake up to the fact that are more important things than their facebook/twitter status. and yes, it would be nice to throw in all the drugs, free love, good tunes, etc. (and there should be) but we can't make it all about that either or else such a movement will never been seen as anything more than a drugged out hippie fuckfest. If such a movement were to take place, we would need some true intellectuals and visionaries on our side and not some hipsters from Starbucks. We need a movement that promotes peace, tolerance, freedom, non-snoody intellectualism, individualism (which sometimes can be hard in a counter culture). So many of these values seem to be lost nowadays, it's about they get reinstated. and yeah, I'm not saying anything new but isn't that the problem? Somethings just haven't changed. Perhaps, none of it will ever work. Especially here in the US, where our owners have this country by the balls. but would you rather accept defeat in a passive-aggressive way or go out all guns blazing?
There's nothing to bring back brothers and sisters, It's all in your head. It was and is in our heads still. If you got it you'll never ever lose it. It is the way you think and look at things. You have the opportunity to get up and take control of your life and help make a better place for others that follow. If you want to be a part of The 60s, here we are http://www.hipforums.com/newforums/forumdisplay.php?f=654 come on over and join us.
sweet, I think that was my quote. I really do admire the 60s for its rebellious attitude. But this era isn't the worst. Gays couldn't marry in the 60s. They couldn't even be openly gay. Pot was still demonized, now it's legal in two states! There is actually a lot of good music out there from our generation if you look beyond the radio. And there are a lot of people that see beyond the lies of the status quo, we just aren't as vocal about it as they were in the 60s
Well if to you selling out means working 7 days a week with disabled people (5 at an after school program with a 10 year old autistic boy who can't talk helping him interact with people, and the weekends with 2 quadriplegics getting them dressed and in their chairs and helping them lead productive lives) for slightly more than minimum wage then I guess you're right. By the way a side effect I also get to teach kids in my own way that there is an alternative to how they live and what they see. One of my weekend clients is also an advocate/activist for disabled rights and is trying to help keep the disabled out of nursing homes and in their own homes for a better quality of life. Maybe it's because I have a few years on you that I realize that I can't change the whole world for everybody nor do I have the ego to want to. But the change and help that I do for others starts a ripple effect that does change the world. A big part of the reason that the whole "hippie" thing was just a phase for a large group of people is that their intentions were good but their motivation was bad. Instead of saying "The world is fucked up, and how can we change it for the betterment of others," it was more like "The world is fucked up, and how can we change it so we can say 'Look what we did'". Then there are those who said "We want to change the system from the inside." That was a load of shit too it was more like "Being a broke revolutionary sucks." Throwing the word "Sellout" at someone you don't really know on a hippie website when you just come on isn't a wise idea. Because first of all you don't know my lifestyle, my philosophies, and my temperment. Also being new here you don't know how the regulars are going to respond when you start pissing on their friends shoes. Don't fuck with the locals until you are one. And throwing the word "Sellout" at someone you don't really know is disrespectful and very unhippie. C/S, Rev J
