It probably depends on the type of tree and how relevant you might hold that to age.

What happens when a Pine forest dies out and Hardwoods take over. Is that old age? I wonder.

The oldest confirmed tree age is over 5000 years. The oldest speculated tree age is almost 7000 years. S I don't think they die of old age--more like disease or natural disaster.

well, shit does contain millions of bacterial cells which are both alive and can die of old age.

i think those are certain species of trees that happen to be long-lived. but i still think trees and other plants can die because their cellular structures just get old and wear out.

or...depending on how you think about "aging," it can be thought of as a disease.

and just to keep picking on you:
wouldn't biblical times only be about two thousand fourteen years ago, so of course a 5000 year old tree is older than that :p

The yew tree can live to about 9500 years max,and in popular folklore are deemed to have quasi supernatural qualities.

yeah, but i don't think that qualifies the shit itself as being alive. it's just a nice place to live.

That Biblical thing was poorly thought out, you're right. I was thinking of a specific tree that I saw in a museum. It "witnessed" the lifespans of both Jesus and Caesar.

And yes, some trees seem to be more prone to long life--such as Redwoods. They seem to resist disease, fire, weather...everything except human intervention.

Some plants are seasonal, some are annuals and some seem to have an undetermined life dependent on changing environmental conditions I would think.

My take is that everything changes form eventually. Plants, trees, and all else.

From my experience, trees usually die of something besides old age.

Yea, I really want to plant a tree somewhere, maybe I'll do it in a park. I have a small pine, I guess it will eventually get big.

can you just go around planting trees in public places? i feel like you would get in trouble....not that you should, but i feel like you'd need a permit or some dumb shit like that.

i've planted some trees in my day, but we are in different versions of new york

yeah, you would generally need some sort of permission for that. of course, there's no guarantee that anyone would take the trouble to punish him for it, but it's still not supposed to be done.

Where are you going to plant it? In a remote area where nobody will notice it or somewhere like the parking next to a street?
